Steven Caldwell joins up with Wigan
Wigan Athletic have bolstered their defensive options with the capture of Scotland international Steven Caldwell.
Caldwell, 29, is the older brother of current Latics defender Gary and has signed a one-year contract at the DW Stadium.
He was available on a free transfer after leaving Burnley following their relegation from the Premier League last season.
"We have seen what Steven is all about during his time here – a leader on and off the field and he is a great personality to have in the dressing room," manager Roberto Martinez told the club's official website.
Caldwell has been training with the Latics for a number of weeks and Martinez hopes his arrival can help tighten up a defensive unit which has conceded ten goals in their two opening Premier League games.
He continued:"He has shown real professionalism in his time with us and we are delighted to have him on board.
