The perfect addition to get the best out of Kane at Spurs?

Harry Kane has been at the forefront of Tottenham’s attack for much of the past 12 months, and given his impressive showings I wouldn’t be surprised if the club crest of a cockerel standing on a ball was replaced with the 21-year-old’s face.

Kane is undoubtedly one of Mauricio Pochettino’s most prized players. Usually playing as the lone striker in a 4-2-3-1 system, he’s been extremely reliable for Spurs, averaging 134 minutes per goal since his first-team debut at the end of the 2013/14 campaign. But it seems that Pochettino is now considering converting the solo star into one half of a dynamic duo.

West Bromwich Albion’s Saido Berahino may be lining up alongside his England U-21 teammate Kane at White Hart Lane next season, according to reports. Berahino had a breakout season in 2014/15, netting a career-best 20 goals while notching six assists in 45 appearances for the Baggies. His 14 Premier League efforts were the sixth best tally in the division and helped earn him the club’s Players’ Player of the Year award.

The youngster has also impressed internationally, scoring 11 goals in his 12 caps for the U-21s. In that squad, where coach Gareth Southgate also uses a 4-2-3-1, Berahino and Kane were used interchangeably, not simultaneously. When they were on the pitch at the same time (eight out of Berahino’s 12 games), Kane played striker and Berahino was shifted back to the left wing.

The playing styles of Berahino and Kane are remarkably similar. Both are incredibly fast and adept finishers, and are willing to take risks as well. Strikes from outside the box account for roughly 40 percent of both of their shot records, and headed attempts are plentiful.

In Premier League play, however, Berahino has a slight edge in shot accuracy, 43 percent to Kane’s 41.9 percent. The West Brom player also has a pass success rate of 83.2 percent, remarkably high for a striker and significantly more than Kane’s 75.2 percent. The stat becomes even more impressive when you take into account that Tony Pulis’ men are notoriously weak at holding onto the ball, falling into the bottom four in the league for keeping possession. Imagine if Berahino could play for a side that was in the top three for possession, like the Lilywhites?

Berahino has managed to prove himself a top striker despite playing for a team that failed to even crack 40 goals last season. He would surely provide the Spurs with another centre forward should Kane get injured, but shouldn’t be discounted as just a back-up. He is a perfectly respectable equal to Kane, and could see Spurs struggle to designate a regular starter in what would most surely be a win-win situation.

Perhaps ‘HurriKane’ will be joined by Saido ‘BeraHero.’ Eh, we’ll work on that.

Football fans come together to congratulate Harry Kane

Not bad for a one season wonder, eh?

Harry Kane just keeps getting better and better and better. The England international went in to this afternoon’s Boxing Day clash with Southampton at Wembley needing just one goal to break Alan Shearer’s record of scoring the most goals in a calendar year – 36 in 1995.

And in the 22nd minute, the striker got his head on the end of a superb Christian Eriksen free-kick to make it 37 goals in 2017 and to break yet another record in his ever improving Tottenham career.

That goal takes him to 94 Premier League goals in total, and he’ll most certainly have his sights set on Shearer’s most prestigious Premier League record – the all-time top scorer.

He some way to go before netting more than Shearer’s 260 but he definitely is the posing the biggest threat to that long standing record than anyone else ever has.

It also brings him level with Lionel Messi with goals scored for club and country in 2017, which makes the achievement even more astonishing.

Revealed: 60% of Liverpool fans would back swoop for Stoke’s Sobhi

With Virgil van Dijk’s arrival and Philippe Coutinho’s potential departure dominating the headlines, some of the smaller transfer stories involving Liverpool this month have inevitably slipped under the radar – such as Jurgen Klopp’s apparent interest in Stoke City winger Ramadan Sobhi.

According to Sky Sports’ Peter O’Rourke, the Liverpool gaffer has asked for a character reference from Egypt team-mate Mohamed Salah, suggesting the Potters prospect has taken his fancy. So we asked Reds supporters earlier this week whether they’d back a transfer swoop for the 19-cap attacker and according to our poll, 60% would be in favour of a deal.

The 6 foot winger is starting to make his mark in the Premier League after scoring twice in December, highlighting the progress the 20-year-old has made since arriving from Al-Ahly in summer 2016.

Transfermarkt currently value him at just £5.4million and highly-rated as a young attacker with big potential, Liverpool would be wise to move before another upturn in form sees that sum drastically increases.

In Focus: Alex Sandro can solve Man United’s left flank problem

As reported by The Mirror, Manchester United are ready to rival Chelsea for the signature of Juventus star Alex Sandro.

What’s the story?

Jose Mourinho has struggled to find a consistent and natural performer at left-back all season, a situation that’s fast becoming a major problem for the Portuguese.

In order to solve that, it appears he’s ready to go to battle with his former side Chelsea in the transfer market once again, after winning the race to sign Romelu Lukaku last summer.

The Mirror say that the Mourinho has identified Brazilian international Alex Sandro as the man to revitalise their left flank and is urging the club’s hierarchy to shell out and meet Juventus’ £53m valuation of the player.

The paper reckon that interest is unlikely to materialise in a formal offer until the summer, but any move by Chelsea could prompt a bid as early as this month’s transfer window.

The right man?

There’s no doubt that Alex Sandro is one of the leading left-backs in Europe right now, helping Juventus reach the final of the UEFA Champions League last season, playing in 11 matches along the way.

With a natural tendency to attack and carry the ball forward, he would fit in excellently to United’s system and give them new width on the left hand side that can help exploit determined defences.

He’s a born winner too, having won nine major honours in his career in three countries. If Mourinho is to bring United back to the glory days of yesteryear then he needs personalities like that in the dressing room.

At the reported £53m he’s costly, but you have to pay that kind of money for quality in today’s transfer market and ensuring he doesn’t move to Chelsea should be a big priority for the Old Trafford side.

Southampton fans want Marco Silva to replace Pellegrino after Brighton draw

Southampton dropped points at home against another relegation rival and remained in the Premier League relegation zone as they drew 1-1 with Brighton and Hove Albion at St Mary’s on Wednesday night, and Saints fans have urged the club to sack manager Mauricio Pellegrino and replace him with Marco Silva. While the south coast outfit did move up to 18th in the table, their point against the Seagulls means that they have now failed to beat them, Newcastle United, Swansea City, Watford and Huddersfield on their own patch this season.Meanwhile, Silva was a contender to replace Claude Puel at Saints in the summer but eventually was appointed as the Hornets’ new boss instead, although he was sacked last month following a breakdown in his relationship between the board and the players over a failed move to Everton.Southampton supporters were quick to have their say on the 40-year-old via social media following the latest disappointing result – their 12th top flight game without a win – and while one said “get rid now and bring in Silva”, another said ‘Marco Silva would get much more out of this squad’.Here is just a selection of the Twitter reaction…

Tottenham fans are all saying the same thing ahead of huge Arsenal clash

Tottenham Hotspur play host to arch-rivals Arsenal in the latest episode of the North London derby at their temporary Wembley home on Saturday, and Spurs fans are all saying the same thing ahead of the huge clash.

Mauricio Pochettino’s fifth-placed men will be looking for revenge after they were beaten 2-0 in the corresponding fixture earlier in the season, while they also know that they can extend their advantage over their local enemies to seven points with a victory.

Spurs will move into the top four – at least temporarily – with a draw or a win – and that will be their ultimate goal in the Premier League with their hopes of winning the title ending a while ago.

Tottenham supporters have been quick to give their thoughts ahead of the derby via social media, and they are all experiencing the same emotions.

While one said “feeling both excited and nervous”, another said “I’m confident yet nervous for this game”.

Southampton fans react as Sadio Mane scores Champions League hat-trick

Former Southampton attacker Sadio Mane scored a hat-trick for Liverpool in their 5-0 win against FC Porto in the first leg of their Champions League last 16 knockout tie on Wednesday night, and Saints fans were quick to have their say on the 25-year-old’s display.

The south coast outfit sold the Senegal international to the Reds in the summer of 2016 after he netted 25 goals in 75 appearances in all competitions for them, including a treble against Aston Villa in just two minutes and 56 seconds.

The forward didn’t quite beat that record in Portugal, although he has now scored 25 goals in just 57 matches for Jurgen Klopp’s side as they look set to cruise through to the quarter-finals of Europe’s elite club competition.

Southampton supporters took to social media to give their thoughts on Mane’s latest performance, and while one said “damn I miss him here”, another said “what could have been”.

Everton fans react as reports suggest Cenk Tosun could return to Turkey

Arguably one of the most in-form strikers in Europe heading into the January transfer window, Cenk Tosun was one of the hottest properties in football and many clubs were sniffing around the then Besiktas striker.

Amazingly, Everton beat off all competition and landed the Turkish international for £27 million in January.

However, since his move to Merseyside, the striker, who is valued at £20.7 million by Transfermarkt, has managed just four appearances and looks a shell of the player he was at the start of the current campaign.

While there is no doubt that adjusting to life in a new country can be hard, it does seem that Tosun has not been given a fair crack at the whip by Sam Allardyce.

And now, reports in Turkey are stating that the 26-year-old could be heading back to Besiktas on-loan in the summer, with Allardyce ready to cut his losses on the forward.

Upon hearing the news, Everton fans took to Twitter and they were not impressed by the reports or their club…

Thomas Lemar is the perfect Coutinho replacement for Liverpool

According to Le10sport, Liverpool are close to agreeing a summer move for Monaco’s Thomas Lemar.

What’s the story?

After it was suggested last month that Liverpool had cooled interest in Lemar, French reports are now claiming a deal is close to being agreed between the two clubs.

A recent report in The Times claimed Jürgen Klopp will seek a direct replacement for Coutinho this summer, something that Liverpool fans were aggravated he didn’t do during the January window, and the Frenchman certainly has the potential to fill the now-Barcelona man’s void.

And it now looks like Lemar could be heading to Anfield after all, as Le10sport claim the player is close to agreeing the terms of a move – with talks already taking place.

Would it be a good move?

Lemar is just about the closest Liverpool could get to replacing Philippe Coutinho. The French midfielder, valued at £58.5million by Transfermarkt, has just two goals and seven assists in 18 league starts this season, but was a key figure in Monaco’s title success last year.

Most importantly for Liverpool, his versatility means he would improve both their starting line-up and their squad depth. Similarly to Coutinho, Lemar operates predominantly as a left winger, but could also play the No.10 role or as an advanced central midfielder, where Coutinho played for Liverpool this season. This would allow them to rotate players in attack without a drop off in quality.

The 22 year-old Frenchman is a set piece maestro, something the Reds have sorely missed since Coutinho left. He would create loads of chances for Liverpool’s fantastic front three and he isn’t afraid to take players on, something Klopp will love.

Likewise, his vision and creativity would make the Reds even more dangerous, and his age makes him an interesting project for the Anfield boss.

Revealed: 84% of Man United fans want Fellaini to be dropped against Brighton

Marouane Fellaini was handed a shock recall to the Manchester United starting lineup for their crunch Champions League tie with Sevilla on Tuesday.

It wasn’t quite clear what the Belgian – valued at £10.8m by Transfermarkt – was supposed to provide or why he was hurried back when he was clearly not 100% fit and he was substituted on the hour mark.

Fellaini was not the only underperformer on Tuesday – the whole team was dire – and that adds yet more pressure to the FA Cup quarter-final clash with Brighton.

The Seagulls will travel to Old Trafford with nothing to lose, knowing that they could give their fans an unforgettable day out and set up a semi-final tie at Wembley; all the onus is on United.

The voices of dissent against Mourinho turned up a notch or two after his latest abject failure and that means it is imperative he gets his team selection right.

So we asked you, should Mourinho keep the faith with Fellaini and the response was staggering; 84% of United fans said no. Check out the full results of the poll below…
