Paulinho – 168 gols
Giuliano – 134 gols
Willian – 113 gols
Luan – 86 gols
Renato Augusto – 84 gols
Róger Guedes – 67 gols

Média de gols por jogo na carreira

Jô – 233 gols/736 jogos – 0,32 gol por jogo
Róger Guedes – 67 gols/244 jogos – 0,27gol por jogo
Paulinho – 168 gols/648 jogos – 0,26gol por jogo
Giuliano – 134 gols/587 jogos – 0,23gol por jogo
Luan – 86 gols/375 jogos – 0,23gol por jogo
Willian – 113 gols/720 jogos – 0,16gol por jogo
Renato Augusto – 84 gols/541 jogos – 0,15gol por jogo

Birmingham star who lost the ball 16x is now as undroppable as Stansfield

Birmingham City survived an almighty scare this weekend in League One action, as a plucky Peterborough United side raced into an unexpected 2-0 lead early on at St. Andrew’s.

Instead of panicking and losing their cool, however, Chris Davies’ Blues continued to plug away and eventually won the barnstorming contest 3-2 in the end, with Krystian Bielik rising above everyone from a corner deep into the second half clinching the frantic win.

Jay Stansfield also impressed in the back-and-forth affair, as the bumper summer buy constantly gave his side energy when heads were down after the visitors raced into a shock two-goal advantage.

Stansfield's performance in numbers

The former Fulham man certainly had a big part to play in the equaliser on the day, as his effort deflected off Posh defender Oscar Wallin to send the St. Andrew’s masses into pandemonium.

Away from this key contribution, Stansfield was also lively venturing forward aiming to tee up his teammates for chances, with six dribbles attempted across the course of the action-packed 90 minutes, on top of also registering one key pass.

The electric Birmingham number 28 was substituted off the pitch late on, for sharpshooter Alfie May to get a run-out, but the tenacious 21-year-old certainly helped steer his side to an unbelievable sixth league win in a row, which saw the Blues shoot up to the top spot in the division subsequently.

Whilst Stansfield impressed yet again, there were other performers from a Birmingham point of view who were equally as lively away from the standout attacker, including Icelandic winger Willum Thor Willumsson, who instigated the comeback with a poacher’s finish in the first 45 minutes.

Willumsson's performance in numbers

The former Go Ahead Eagles man has become a staple of Davies’ starting line-ups now, having not missed a single minute of league action across his side’s last four League One encounters.

His spot in the XI is concrete for good reason too, as the 6 foot 3 midfielder stood out against Darren Ferguson’s dangerous visitors away from just his coolly converted strike.

Much like Stansfield, who has proven this season that he knows how to bag a goal or two with three strikes from his first three League One games alongside being able to create, Willumsson also proved in this exciting contest that he can set up teammates to have their moment in the spotlight, with the Nordic attacker notching up 32 accurate passes when Davies’ men routinely attacked at full pelt.

Moreover, the winger could have had another goal next to his name with three shots registered at Jed Steer’s busy net, as the likes of Willumsson – and second-half substitute Scott Wright – caused all sorts of havoc for the away side to deal with.

He lost possession 16 times across the full 90 minutes, but the 25-year-old always bravely went about retrieving the ball, before Posh managed to sneak back into the enthralling contest.

It was seen as a coup that Birmingham managed to land Willumsson this summer – who has 11 senior Iceland caps next to his name – as the towering 25-year-old continues to adapt to England swimmingly, with two goals and two assists picked up from seven third tier clashes.

The attacker was gifted an 8/10 rating by Birmingham Live journalist Alex Dicken after the dramatic win, with the reporter stating that Willumsson was ‘heavily involved’ in his team turning around a two-goal deficit to rise to the very top of the League One perch.

Davies will have been overjoyed with his team’s confidence to bounce back in the manner they did, as the Blues continue take the league by storm with the main aim of returning straight back up to the Championship with swagger.

Vasoo Paranjape, mentor to greats like Gavaskar, dies aged 82

Mumbai legend helped the careers of several players like Vengsarkar, Manjrekar and Rohit Sharma

Vasoo Paranjape (sitting third from left) was one of Sunil Gavaskar’s mentors

One of the unsung heroes of Indian cricket, Vasudeo Paranjape, passed away at his residence in Mumbai on Monday after a prolonged illness. Paranjape, popularly known as Vasoo, was three months short of turning 83. He is survived by his son Jatin, a former Mumbai batter, who also played four ODIs and recently co-authored a book about his father titled .While Paranjape’s playing career was short – 29 first-class matches for Mumbai and Baroda – he became a household name by mentoring the likes of Sunil Gavaskar, Dilip Vengsarkar, Sanjay Manjrekar and Rohit Sharma, helping them reach impressive heights in all forms of cricket. Paranjape’s gift was such that even a few overseas players like former England batter Ed Smith would come to him for advice.Related

Lessons for life from Vasoo Paranjape

Legendary Mumbai mentor who made a mark on Dravid, Gavaskar

Despite never making it to the highest level, Paranjape had a strong grasp on batting technique and the ability to help people get the most out of themselves. Paranjape developed this skill by watching greats like Madhav Mantri, his captain at Dadar Union, go about their business. And when he too rose through the same ranks and took over the club, Dadar Union went on a title-winning spree. They swept the Kanga League A division, Talim Shield, Purshottam Shield and the Comrade Shield. As much as those trophies symbolise the kind of leader Paranjape was, only the stories give a true sense of the man. Here is one involving Paranjape during his tenure as Dadar Union captain in the 1970s when the Bombay club was experiencing a golden era.

It begins with Paranjape pulling a fast one on a star-studded Bombay University side. Avadhoot Zarapkar, who was part of that match, remembers it well. “We were playing at Grant Medical College and the wicket was soft, so our captain decided to put Dadar Union in,” he told Clayton Murzello, sports editor at , in 2012. “We had Dilip Vengsarkar, Sandeep Patil, Suru Nayak and Vijay Mohan Raj. Their team included Sunil Gavaskar, Ramnath Parkar and Vithal Patil. We thought we had them grounded at 92 for 5, but Vasoo declared. We were shocked. I remember Sandeep asking whether Vasoo thought we were a [inferior] team. We were soon to find out. Urmikant Mody and Vithal Patil took five apiece to dismiss us for 55.”Paranjape’s reason for the declaration was simple. “There was a match to be won. If our team – which included a certain Sunil Gavaskar – found it so difficult to score, then the opposition would struggle too, though they were a very good side.”While promoting last year, Gavaskar said that Paranjape was the true “conscience keeper” of the game. “All of us at Dadar Union can’t thank him enough for his guidance, for his spirit, and most importantly for him being the conscience keeper of our beloved game of cricket. We learnt from him that we must always stay true to the game.”Gavaskar summed up by calling Paranjape a true servant of the game because he had given more to cricket than cricket had given to him. Testament to that fact is the early career of one Rohit Sharma, as the player himself recalls: “I got to learn from him how to approach batting in different situations. He always told us: ‘No two situations are the same. Try and read the game – where you are, what you can do for your team and the situation your team is in. Learn this as soon as you can because now is the time to learn, not when you are playing for Bombay or India.'”

Virat Kohli: Among the top three bowling performances I've seen as captain

“We have everything that we need to win: we have the belief, we have the team,” says India captain

Laxman: Kohli’s intensity and aggressive body language is infectious

India won the fourth Test by 157 runs at The Oval, taking a 2-1 series lead with one match to go. After the match, India captain Virat Kohli spoke to Michael Atherton, and saidOn this, and the second Test win at Lord’s, both being among India’s best-ever wins
The best thing about the both wins is the character that the side has shown. If you look at how the game panned: you mentioned the 100-run lead that England had in the first innings [England had a 99-run lead at The Oval] – to come back from there and the way we batted in the second innings showed that we are not down and out. And we are not looking to surivive in this game. If there’s an opportunity to put the opposition under pressure, we’ll go for it. And we put up a total on the board which was always going to be difficult to chase, especially heading latter half of Day 4 and 5.As I said at Lord’s as well, I’m really proud of the character the team has shown, specially this morning the way the team has bowled. It is definitely among top three bowling performances that I have witnessed as Indian captain.Related

'This is the situation we love best' – Kohli eager to prove doubters wrong

Ravi Shastri, Bharat Arun and R Sridhar to miss fifth Test after positive Covid-19 results

On being confident about getting 10 wickets on a seemingly flat pitch
It’s quite relative what you call flat. The last two days, conditions were really hot so the field wasn’t that wet like the first three days. And we knew we were in with an opportunity with [Ravindra] Jadeja bowling from one end into the rough – the ball got scuffed up quite nicely and we managed to make one side heavier. And our guys, when the ball is reversing enough, they become much more lethal, and we exploited reverse swing perfectly today. We were actually looking forward to bowling with the old ball. And we looked at that as a positive rather than thinking: ‘Nothing’s happening from the pitch, what are we going to do here?’ Rather than that, we believed as a team, yes, we could get all 10 wickets today. That’s exactly why it happened today, because the boys had belief. On Bumrah’s six-over spell post lunch
Absolutely unbelievable spell. If you give 27 runs off 22 overs on this kind of pitch, that’s a huge effort in the last innings of the Test match. As you said the pitch hadn’t offered enough, but as soon as the ball started reversing a bit, Jasprit just said: “Just give me the ball.” And he bowled that six-over spell and got us two breakthroughs which completely shifted the momentum to our side. From there on, we knew anymore mistakes from England and we will be all over this game.On Shardul Thakur’s influence
Rohit’s innings was outstanding – playing against a 100-run lead as an opener and the conditions were overcast, and his knock was the difference in the second innings. But the impact performance we were looking from a lower middle-order point of view, what Shardul has done in this game has to be remembered for a long time. Even in first innings he stood up: his 50 was the actually the difference between a 150-160 lead and a 100-run lead. And his 60 in the second innings as well, a counter-attacking one, I felt like it deflated the opposition. When I got out in the morning (on Day 4), they were looking at a few more breakthroughs and probably to try to restrict us to a reasonable total, but the way he batted again in the second innings was outstanding. On Shastri, Arun, Sridhar absent
It is unfortunate they are not here, but they did call the team just now – everyone is really happy with the win. Also we get ahead in the series with one Test match to play. It’s absolutely a great momentum booster because we’ve been here for a long time and now this gives us even more motivation to go out there and try and win the next one as well. We have everything that we need to win: we have the belief, we have the team. Eventhough we rested couple of our bowlers we still stood up and guys did the job with ball and bat in hand and in the field as well.

Rodgers has hit the jackpot on Celtic "powerhouse" who’s now worth £18m

That night in Dortmund stands as a blot on the copybook, yet Scottish champions Celtic have looked rather imperious otherwise in the early knockings of the new season, having made a faultless start to the defence of their league crown.

Seven wins from seven have been secured in the Scottish Premiership thus far, with new number one Kasper Schmeichel having conceded just once in the competition in that time, as Ronan Hale fired home from the penalty spot in Dingwall last time out. Even that required a second attempt from the Irishman.

Schmeichel, it must be said, is more than proving his worth following his free transfer arrival from Anderlecht over the summer, with the 37-year-old having comfortably taken over the mantle from fellow veteran, Joe Hart, in the sticks.

That bargain capture of the experienced Dane came amid what was, in the end, an impressive window for the Old Firm side, with Brendan Rodgers and co already reaping the rewards of their summer business.

Celtic's new stars are shining

Ahead of Schmeichel, it does appear too early to judge new man Auston Trusty, with the left-footer having been forced to slot into an unorthodox, right centre-back berth amid Cameron Carter-Vickers’ absence, although another new defender – Alex Valle – has already caught the eye following his notable, back-heeled assist against St Johnstone.

At the top end of the pitch, £9.5m man Adam Idah has made an encouraging start to life back at Parkhead with four goals in ten games thus far, taking his total tally for the club to 13 goals and two assists in just 28 games across all fronts.

The ex-Norwich City man was not the only former loanee to sign permanently, as Paulo Bernardo – who already has two goals this season – joined from Benfica, while the midfield ranks were strengthened even further with the £1m addition of Dundee’s Luke McCowan.

McCowan has slotted in smoothly having got off the mark in the 2-0 win over Hearts back in September, a game that also saw fellow new arrival – and club-record signing – Arne Engels get up and running in a Hoops shirt.

Arne Engels' market value in 2024

It is, of course, still early days, yet Celtic’s £11m signing doesn’t appear to have been weighed down too heavily by that hefty price tag, nor by the pressure to try and fill Matt O’Riley’s shoes in Glasgow.

In just seven appearances in green and white, the promising Belgian has already chalked up three goals and two assists from his creative midfield berth, having previously contributed 12 goal involvements in 53 outings for former club Augsburg.

Not that it’s all been plain-sailing – with Engels hooked on the hour mark against Ross County last week – but it does look as if Rodgers is on to a winner with this marquee signing already.

That point is only heightened by the fact that, remarkably, the 21-year-old – whom teammate Callum McGregor dubbed a “powerhouse” – may already be worth more than what the club paid for him just a matter of months ago.

That’s according to CIES Football Observatory, who deem the playmaker to be worth as much as €20m (£18m), representing an increase of £7m in relation to his £11m transfer fee.

Market Movers

Football FanCast's Market Movers series explores the changing landscape of the modern transfer market. How much is your club's star player or biggest flop worth today?

Not that Celtic will be looking to cash in any time soon, but it does bode well for the potential profit that could be made in the future, with the Old Firm outfit having raked in £25m apiece for Jota and O’Riley across the last two summer windows.

The question now is whether young Engels can mirror that pair and cement himself as something of a talisman at Celtic Park. Only time will tell.

Newcastle must regret deal for £15m flop who’s now worth millions less

Newcastle United certainly endured some dark days under the ownership of Mike Ashley, with the Magpies even dropping into the Championship on various occasions during his reign.

The 60-year-old often came under fire for his lack of investment into the playing squad at St James’ Park, which arguably resulted in their relegation to England’s second tier back in the 2015/16 Premier League season.

Whilst they secured an immediate return under Rafa Benitez, Ashley was still a target for the supporters, often venting their frustrations with numerous protests about his ownership on Tyneside.

Rafa Benitez

He would eventually sell the club in October 2021, ending his 14-year spell at the helm of the Magpies, with the Saudi PIF completing a deal to acquire the club.

However, one of his final transfer windows as owner would see him stick to his transfer strategy – often targeting cheaper alternatives – another move that upset supporters.

Newcastle’s transfer window in the summer of 2020

During the summer of 2020, Newcastle would make five new signings, three of which were free transfers, costing Ashley absolutely nothing apart from their wages.

Jeff Hendrick, Ryan Fraser and Mark Gillespie all moved to Tyneside during the aforementioned window, looking to build on the 13th-placed league finish from the season prior.

The trio were joined by Callum Wilson and Jamal Lewis, the pair costing Magpies boss Steve Bruce around £20m and £15m from Bournemouth and Norwich City, respectively.

Both were seen as impressive additions, which would provide needed quality in two areas that have been a problem for various managers over the years.

However, whilst the deal for Wilson was a roaring success, with the Englishman scoring 48 times in 108 appearances since his move, the big-money signing of Lewis was a failure, to say the least.

The Northern Ireland international has only made 36 appearances for Newcastle since his move over four years ago, with his last game coming at the start of the 2022/23 campaign.

He’s since been on loan at Championship side Watford, before making a surprising move to join Brazilian side São Paulo on a temporary basis until June 2025 – the same month his deal expires at St James’ Park.

Jamal Lewis’ market value in 2024

As a result of his lack of impact on Tyneside since his move four years ago, the left-back has seen his market value plummet, with his transfer looking a huge waste of money as the months pass by.

His £15m transfer fee was expensive enough, especially considering it came during the Ashley era, but given his lowly appearance tally, he’s cost the club £416k every time he’s played a game for them.

Undoubtedly, given his lack of first-team action in the North East, the hierarchy would’ve wanted to move him on permanently during the recent summer window, but his move to Brazil still allows him to gain valuable game time.

It hasn’t appeared to have had a positive impact on his market value as of yet, with Lewis now only valued at £1m as per Football Transfers – a drop of £3.5m for each season he’s spent contracted to Newcastle.

With his contract set to expire in less than 12 months, it’s almost certain that the 26-year-old will finally be departing Tyneside as a free agent – allowing him to resurrect his once-promising career.

However, unfortunately, his move hasn’t worked out as either party would’ve anticipated, leaving many with regret over spending such a hefty sum on a player who simply hasn’t lived up to expectations.
