West Brom fans full of superlatives for Ahmed Hegazi

[ad_pod ]

Supporters of West Brom have taken to Twitter to hail the performance of central defender Ahmed Hegazi, throwing superlatives the Egyptian’s way following a tweet he made.

The Hawthorns faithful haven’t had too much to shout about recently but bounced back to winning ways after three matches without a victory this week in what was their first game since Darren Moore’s departure.

Hegazi was one of the key men to make a difference in their 3-0 win over Swansea as the 28-year-old kept a clean sheet. It was a display that earned rave reviews as fans left comments for him on social media.

The 51-cap Egypt international was ever present for the Baggies in the Premier League last season and as such has since been labelled by one supporter as too good for the Championship. Similar plaudits were aimed at him, claiming he is the best centre-back at the club as fans were left drooling over his defensive efforts.

His initial tweet showed him blocking the ball to deny Connor Roberts, a challenge that was hailed by one specific Baggie, calling it an incredible stop. The ex-Fiorentina man’s display was lauded as brilliant, with another member of support fearing where they would be without him.

Albion’s defender has featured 31 times for them in the league this campaign, having scored one goal.

Here’s the best of the reaction.

Tottenham: Fans shouldn’t be too excited about a potential Gareth Bale return

It seems crazy to think that Gareth Bale left Tottenham nearly six years ago.

The Welsh international, who left north London for a then world-record fee of £88 million, was tipped to be the next British superstar to take over Spain. However, things haven’t gone exactly to plan.

Despite a breakout first year where the winger scored the winning goal in both the Copa del Rey and Champions League final, Bale has yet to really remain settled in the Spanish capital.

Injuries, feuds with players and managers and not embracing the Spanish culture are just a handful of reasons as to what many are calling “The Fall of Gareth Bale”. And with the reappointment of Zinedine Zidane, it is looking likely this season may well be the last in the Spanish capital for Madrid’s record signing.

If this is to be the case, a move to the Premier League will seem the most logical of moves for the 29-year-old. Manchester United have been the side strongly linked with Bale since the fallout of his presence and importance in the Real Madrid side, however, it has been revealed this week that former club Spurs are interested in bringing back their former star.

AS report that Daniel Levy was keen to bring the Welshman back to north London on loan for the 2018/19 season with the idea of Real Madrid paying the majority of Bale’s massive £10 million annual wage, but the demand was too much for Los Blancos to fulfil.

The prospect of a return to Tottenham is something Spurs fans will be excited about. Bale was the last player to win the PFA Player of the Year for the club and his final season in the Premier League is often regarded as one of the best individual seasons in the history of the league, with the Welshman scoring 21 goals and assisting a further nine in 33 league appearances.

Bale is a beloved figure at the club, but would a reunion with Spurs be ideal for both club and player?

Tottenham have changed A LOT since Bale’s departure in 2013. Under Mauricio Pochettino, Spurs have gone from consistent fifth place league finishers to a genuine top-four side and one of the most productive teams in the country. The club has also changed a stylistically.

Although the club still favours a 4-2-3-1, the formation Bale thrived in at Spurs, Pochettino’s use of the system is completely different to what the 2012/13 PFA Player of the Year played in. The Argentine’s high-pressing, build from the back approach is something that Spurs players have adapted well too, and Poch favours players that can adapt to his style.

The likes of Harry Kane, Heung-Min Son and Dele Alli have all been transformed into bonafide superstars under Poch and his tactics, and introducing someone with the star calibre like Bale could disrupt the balance the Spurs boss has spent years trying to build.

Bale might have a strong place in the hearts of many Spurs fans, but it might be in the better interests of the team if they leave his memories in the past and look to move the club forward without him in the future.

Tottenham fans, would you like Gareth Bale back at the club?

Between The Lines: Alexander Sorloth loving life at Gent; will he leave Crystal Palace?

[ad_pod ]

When Alexander Sorloth left Crystal Palace for Gent in January, the loanee surely felt things could only get better – his 12 months at Selhurst Park were disappointing and it was clear he needed a temporary change of scenery to find his feet and scoring touch again.

If the Norwegian’s comments regarding his stay in Belgium and his career at Palace are anything to go by, then he’s absolutely loving it – will Eagles fans see him in their famous red and blue ever again?

What did he say?

Well, Norwegian news outlet Addresseavisen have compiled comments made by the big forward and it’s fairly safe to say he’s enjoying himself across the channel:

“I had to do it [leave Palace for Gent]. I felt that it became heavier and heavier in the fall, and I felt further and further away from a starting point.

“There is a very big difference. I feel like I’m an important part of the team [at Gent], I get to play 90 minutes every weekend for a team fighting at the top of the table.”

Summer exit for Sorloth?

Indeed, the Palace number 9 hardly got a look in the starting XI last year despite the dreadful form of Christian Benteke, with Roy Hodgson largely putting his faith in Jordan Ayew for some strange reason – the Ghanaian has flopped, too.

Now that Michy Batshuayi is leading the line, there would have been absolutely zero opportunities for 23-year-od Sorloth to get minutes, so the loan move was definitely for the best – and the giant hitman knows it.

He clearly doesn’t enjoy battling relegation nearly as much as he does fighting for league titles and this feeling of importance to the team is presumably something he never had at Selhurst Park.

Was Darren Moore’s sacking unfair? The Pl>ymaker FC squad name which EPL bosses should have gone instead in the video below…

The former Midtjylland man clearly has potential to be a good player for Palace but he hasn’t yet proven himself in the top flight – will he flee in the summer and thus show he wasn’t ready for the challenge of the Premier League? Let us know in the comments below.

Radrizzani should pay Boca Juniors’ asking price

Leeds United have been a level above pretty much everyone in the Championship this season but they’ve failed to secure the right result in key games, which has halted their promotion pursuit.

The Whites have the perfect opportunity to redeem themselves against Millwall at Elland Road tomorrow, with three points piling the pressure on the likes of Norwich City and Sheffield United who both face tough sides.

Although, with promotion on the line it appears as if Marcelo Bielsa is already eyeing a possible summer transfer window move, as according to Tuttomercatoweb (via HITC), Leeds are interested in Nahitan Nandez.

And, according to a more recent report from Tuttomercatoweb (via HITC), Leeds have received a boost in their pursuit of the midfielder, as his agent has shared that he wants to leave this summer.

However, the one factor that could affect a potential move for the Uruguay international is the hefty price tag that Boca Juniors have slapped on him, which stands at €20 million (£17 million).

Leeds could definitely do with bringing in another central midfielder if they manage to secure promotion to the Premier League as Adam Forshaw doesn’t look good enough to make the step up, while the likes of Kalvin Phillips and Mateusz Klich could attract transfer interest in the summer transfer window.

Indeed, Leeds have been linked with a move for Ander Iturraspe (as per AS, via Sport Witness), but Nandez has more life left in him and all the attacking qualities to cause problems in the Premier League if the Whites were to taste promotion, so Bielsa should forget about the Spaniard.

So, Andrea Radrizzani must pay the hefty price to sign the midfielder as he could turn out to be an Elland Road hero if his performances in recent years are anything to go by. He’s quick on the ball, can create in the final third and he has a knack for finding the back of the net, so he could be a force in attacking areas, as well as in the defensive third.

The Whites would make a huge statement by bringing the midfield star to Elland Road as they would have pipped the likes of Roma, Cagliari and Newcastle to the signing, which would speak volumes as Roma can offer European football and the Magpies are a guaranteed top-flight club. Also, the Leeds owner would highlight the club’s ambition by spending a large fee on the Uruguayan, as you have to pay the price if you want to bring in top players.

Glenn Middleton deserves another chance and could replace Kent

Success has been a lot harder to come by than Steven Gerrard may have first anticipated it would be but the Englishman will hope to be backed in the transfer market to show that everyone has confidence in him to be a hero at Rangers.

Having dipped below Celtic once again, the hope will be that next season, now that Gerrard has become accustomed to management – he and his team will shine.

Surely, a number of players are sure to leave Ibrox in the summer but an influx of new ones will have to greet the fans as well if this project is going to enter its second phase well.

But hold on one second. Instead of immediately splashing the cash, a look at the youngsters available to Rangers could do them no harm.

In fact, giving another first-team opportunity to Glenn Middleton would be a very sensible idea. Middleton, (who is valued at £135k on Transfermarkt) will surely be hoping that he can work his way back into Steven Gerrard’s plans after failing to sustain a place with the first-team squad recently.

Having made 28 appearances in all competitions this season, Middleton had done well to register five goals and five assists, yet it wasn’t enough for him to have a safe spot within the squad.

The 19-year-old knows he has to work hard to stay in the squad and Rangers could benefit massively from having him back in contention.

After all, for a youngster, he does have great quality and looks to be capable of turning a game on its head.

Of course, with Rangers reportedly (as per Liverpool Echo) set to miss out on signing Ryan Kent permanently in the summer transfer window, perhaps Middleton can fill the void having shown he can score and create.

Whether he is cutting in from the left-hand side or the right, Middleton possesses good versatility which means he can be a useful asset for Gerrard’s side, if only they continue to trust him.

Do you agree that Middleton deserves another shot in the first-team… Let us know!

West Ham: Javier Hernandez’s future for both club and country lies away from east London

There’s no question that in Mexico where football is king, Javier Hernandez is God.

The all-time goalscorer for El Tri is one of the greatest players to ever come from the North American country and has made a lasting impact on European football with successful spells at Bayer Leverkusen, but with West Ham, his form has taken a hit.

16 goals in two seasons with the east London side is a poor return for a striker has hit double digits in individual campaigns on five separate occasions in his time in Europe, and with Hernandez not really adapting to life in east London, it is looking increasingly likely the Mexican star will be leaving the Premier League for good this summer.

Leaving West Ham seems like a beneficial move for Hernandez, who during his time with the Hammers has not only seen his form drop but has seen the former Man United striker be dropped from the Mexico starting XI for Wolves striker Raul Jimenez, who has been a revelation this season for the newly promoted side.

With World Cup qualification starting soon and Hernandez likely to play in his final competition in 2022, the 30-year-old forward will be hoping to go into that tournament in good form after a season of regular first-team football, and at West Ham, the striker simply doesn’t fit into their long-term plans.

With Manuel Pellegrini looking likely to bring in a new striker this summer, Hernandez should be looking for a new club when the off-season rolls around for the benefit of not only his club career, but also his international reputation.

West Ham fans, has Hernandez been a success at the club? Let us know!
