It has been suggested recently by talkSPORT journalist Alex Crook that Southampton are now close to agreeing a new deal with left-back Ryan Bertrand, which would be a huge boost for Ralph Hasenhuttl.

The 31-year-old has been a mainstay in Southampton’s side so far this season, having made 10 appearances in the top-flight, averaging a solid 6.63 rating.

Since joining from Chelsea in 2015, the former England international has gone on to make 217 appearances for the Saints, in which he has contributed eight goals and 19 assists.

However, there was some concern that Bertrand’s time with the South Coast club could be coming to an end, as his current deal is set to expire at the end of this season.

Therefore, the report that he is close to signing a new contract with the club can only be good news for Hasenhuttl and Southampton, as it now seems likely that the left-back could finish his career at the top with the Saints.

The defender certainly seems to be enjoying life under the Austrian at Southampton, as earlier this year he told CaughtOffside:

“Football under Ralph [Hasenhüttl] has been great, it’s modern-day high intense with quick transitions. It’s perfect for my style of play.”

Southampton are also currently low on left-back options, with Sam McQueen still sidelined with a ligament injury, whilst young Jake Vokins has just three senior appearances to his name, so it was vital that the Saints agreed a new deal with Bertrand ahead of next season.

You imagine that the 31-year-old could be a perfect role model for Vokins, who may well be the man to replace Bertrand in the Saints first-team when he eventually does leave the South Coast club.

For the immediate future though, it seems as if Hasenhuttl is securing the final piece of his jigsaw, following the contract renewals of Jan Bednarek and Oriol Romeu in recent weeks, as it should ensure that no regular member of the Saints first-team squad is set to leave the club this summer.

Speaking candidly over a potential return to Ligue 1 giants Paris-Saint Germain (The Sun), defender Serge Aurier has refused to rule out a return to the Parc des Princes whilst dropping an exit hint – going on to say he would ‘never turn down’ an offer from the French side and that is ‘absolutely certain’.

Aurier, who has been rejuvenated under manager Jose Mourinho this season, playing the majority of matches over summer signing Matt Doherty, could have his head turned in future by PSG – especially given the affection he holds for his former club.

The Ivorian, despite conceding a penalty at home to Leicester City recently, has arguably enjoyed his best season at Spurs to date so far – with Lilywhites hoping he can keep up consistent form as their club chase their first piece of silverware since 2008.

Indeed, Aurier’s fine run has even motivated Daniel Levy to plot a new contract for him alongside the likes of Son Heung-min and Hugo Lloris, according to Football Insider.

Exit hint emerges

Amid these fresh deal claims, with Levy reportedly planning negotiations, the right-back has dropped a subtle exit hint as he opens up over his beloved former club.

“When I say PSG is the club close to my heart, I don’t want journalists to say, ‘He can’t say that!’ But of course, I will answer,” explained Aurier, quotes via The Sun.

“It’s the club I’ve loved the most out of all the clubs I’ve played for.

“Paris is where I turned into a man, as a professional, where I discovered myself more. That’s where I enjoyed myself the most.

“When I was a youngster at Lens, Paris was the club of my heart.

“One day, it would be no problem at all to go back, with pleasure. I will never turn down an offer from Paris, that is absolutely certain.”

Whether or not he gets the opportunity to return to the French capital, potentially to link up with Mauricio Pochettino, remains to be seen – but it could be one to watch out for in future windows.

As Levy plans to tie down the African with a new deal, it could take a big offer from PSG if they wish to seal his return – depending on negotiations.

ويشارك تشيلسي كبطل دوري أبطال أوروبا للموسم الماضي 2020/2021 في بطولة كأس العالم للأندية والتي ستقام في الفترة من 3 إلى 12 فبراير العام المقبل في دولة الإمارات العربية المتحدة.

وستحدد الرابطة موعد آخر للمباراة بين تشيلسي وآرسنال ولكن في وقت لاحق وتحديدًا بعد مباراة ربع نهائي كأس كاراباو والتي ستقام يومي 21 و22 ديسمبر المقبل.

الجدير بالذكر أن القرعة قد وضعت تشيلسي في نصف نهائي كأس العالم للأندية وسينتظر الفائز من الهلال السعودي بطل آسيا بمباراته في الدور الثاني أمام المتأهل من الجزيرة الإماراتي وأوكلاند سيتي.

What’s the word?

According to The Sun, long-term Rangers target Juan Alegria isn’t bound for Ibrox – despite a cryptic post on Instagram.

Alegria has been heavily linked with a move to the Govan-based Glaswegian giants, having scored four goals in ten appearances across all competitions this season, via Transfermarkt.

However, contrary to popular belief, it’s claimed the Colombian isn’t on his way to Ibrox but has jetted off on holiday instead.

Rangers are the Premiership’s most prolific side, scoring a whopping 57 goals so far – 12 more than any other team – in 22 games this season. But with Greg Stewart seemingly destined for the Ibrox exit, Ross Wilson could do with signing some offensive reinforcements with one eye on the future.

Despite his age, Alegria’s potential arrival would certainly bolster Gerrard’s firepower as he has a penchant for finding the back of the net. He has scored on every appearance in the Kakkonen for the reserve team this season so far.

The 18-year-old has made no secret of his desire to follow in the footsteps of his countryman Alfredo Morelos, who previously plied his trade in Finland after making the switch from his South American homeland.

It’s no wonder, then, that legendary Rangers fullback Alan Hutton has described him as a “big talent” whilst former Celtic and St. Mirren striker Frank McAvennie has hailed him as an “exciting” prospect.

While admittedly very little is known about the uncapped Colombia U17 international, the numbers don’t lie, and he could have a similar impact to Morelos if they can get a deal over the line. Alegria could add a natural goal threat in front of goal and still has room to improve at the age of 18.

Gerrard must convince Wilson to sanction a move for the promising talent as the chance to sign a star in the making who is available for a pre-contract agreement is simply too good an opportunity to miss.

Crystal Palace are reportedly leading the race to sign Fenerbahce midfielder Ozan Tufan but will have to step up their efforts to sign him in the January transfer window.

What’s the word?

Tufan is believed to be keen on a move to the Premier League, according to reports, with the Eagles eager to add to their midfield ranks with one of the most sought after players in Europe.

According to Sporx, as per Sport Witness, the 25-year-old midfield dynamo is ‘very close’ to a switch to Selhurst Park. However, it’s understood Palace are still some way from reaching an agreement to sign Tufan from Fenerbahce amid interest from a whole host of clubs across Europe.

Although Palace have made an offer in the region of €10m for his services, it’s claimed there is a fundamental gap between both parties that has yet to be resolved.

Ideal heir to James McCarthy?

The Eagles are keen to bolster their midfield options and Roy Hodgson could view Tufan as a sure-fire replacement for James McCarthy, who has been heavily linked with the Selhurst Park exit.

Tufan has established himself as one of the top talents in his home country after moving to Fenerbahce from his hometown club of Bursapor in 2015. He has since been linked with a move to Palace, although they face stiff competition from Premier League strugglers West Bromwich Albion to secure his services.

While Jairo Riedewald has been a total revelation this season, Hodgson has struggled to settle for his preferred pairing in the midfield. Club captain Luka Milivojevic, James McArthur and McCarthy are the trio battling to bag a spot, but there are still questions hanging over all of them.

The £9m-rated 55-cap Turkey international has previously drawn comparisons to former Manchester City star Yaya Toure and would arguably be a significant upgrade on most, if not all, of the midfield options that are currently available to Hodgson.

Tufan has played 15 games in the Turkish Super Lig this season, bagging four goals and five assists, whilst he is currently averaging 1.6 tackles and 1.3 interceptions per game, via WhoScored.

Not only would he be able to provide cover and competition for the likes of Riedewald, Milivojevic and McArthur, he’d also offer an alternative threat in attack, as he has also taken 1.6 shots on average per game to McCarthy’s 0.2 shots in the Premier League.

A transfer for Tufan would make sense for Palace given the relatively low fee as there is an urgent need for a player in that position with one eye on the future.
