أكد سكوت ماكتومناي لاعب فريق مانشستر يونايتد إنه من الصعب تقبل ما حدث اليوم أمام مانشستر سيتي في بطولة الدوري الإنجليزي الممتاز.

وحل مانشستر يونايتد ضيفًا على جاره مانشستر سيتي في ملعب الاتحاد، في قمة منافسات الجولة الثامنة والعشرين، حيث فاز السكاي بلو بأربعة أهداف مقابل هدف.

وقال ماكتومناي في تصريحات نشرتها شبكة “بي بي سي” العالمية: “من وجهة نظري من الصعب رؤية ما حدث اليوم، إنه لأمر مخيب للآمال بشكل لا يصدق إذا اعتقد الناس أننا استسلمنا، أنه مؤلم”.

وعندما سُئل عما إذا كان مانشستر يونايتد يعاني من مشاكل عميقة، رد ماكتومناي: “ليس لدي ما أقوله عن ذلك، أنا هنا للحفاظ على تماسك الجميع”.

وتابع: “كل ما يدور وراء الكواليس لا يهمني، أركز فقط على لعبتنا الخاصة، كما قلت كل ما يحدث وراء الكواليس لا أهتم به”.

Former Premier League striker Dean Windass has exclusively told Football FanCast that Danny Ings would jump at the chance to sign for Tottenham should Harry Kane leave.

Kane’s future at the club is in serious doubt following reports from Sky Sports suggesting that he wants out this summer with Spurs on the cusp of failing to qualify for the Champions League or winning silverware.

Those same reports also believe that Tottenham are already lining up potential replacements for the England captain if he does get his wish to leave.

There aren’t many strikers that can replace Kane’s goalscoring record, but Windass thinks that his Three Lions colleague Ings, whose own future at Southampton is up in the air, would be keen on a move to north London.

Ings hasn’t been his prolific self this season, scoring just 12 times, but has 46 goals in 98 matches for the Saints since making the January switch from Liverpool more than two years ago.

“If Kane doesn’t stay, Danny Ings would jump at the chance,” Windass told Football FanCast.

“It’s a great stadium, massive club, great fan base. These players want to play first-team football and if Harry Kane goes, they will bring someone in. And as a 20-goal striker like Danny Ings is, he will want to play week in, week out.”

Should FC Copenhagen win the Danish Superliga, Rangers would not be a top seed and could face one of Slavia Prague, Olympiacos, Dinamo Zagreb, Young Boys or Red Star Belgrade (Daily Record), all sides who have competed in the group stages in recent seasons.

However, Brondby’s 2-1 win over Aarhus means they are three points clear of Copenhagen with one game left, with their goal difference nine better than that of their capital rivals (BBC).

The Verdict: Big boost

Brondby’s victory gives Rangers a far better chance of reaching the group stages. It would take a huge twist on the final day of the campaign for Copenhagen to prevail, meaning the Gers should secure top seed status. In turn, that should secure an easier tie in the third qualifying round of next season’s Champions League.

Having said that, the Gers cannot afford to get complacent. Any team they face will provide a tougher challenge than the teams they have met in the equivalent rounds of the Europa League in recent years, even if they got past Galatasaray a few months ago. The Gers must be at their best to achieve their goals and avoid another Niederkorn-esque upset.

Manchester United are reportedly interested in signing Southampton striker Danny Ings ahead of the upcoming transfer window.

What’s the story?

That’s according to reports in The Telegraph claiming that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side are still looking to bolster their attacking options despite Edinson Cavani signing a new 12-month deal.

The Red Devils have secured second place in the Premier League table this season, but there’s still work to be done to catch Manchester City, and it appears as though the Old Trafford outfit will be active in the market this summer.

Bad news for Greenwood

United have recorded consecutive top-four finishes for the first time since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement, showing clear signs of progress under their Norwegian manager. However, the significant gap to bitter rivals Manchester City at the top of the table indicates that there’s still progress to be made before United can mount a serious title charge.

Their drawn-out pursuit of Borussia Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho continues to rumble on, as does a move for Real Madrid centre-back Raphael Varane, but links to Ings have only recently surfaced.

Although the England international has proven himself to be a prolific top-flight goalscorer, bagging 34 Premier League strikes over the last two seasons, including 12 this time around, his proposed arrival could harm Mason Greenwood’s development.

While Sancho would free up the 19-year-old forward to play in his natural position through the middle, Ings would offer direct competition and take away regular opportunities for Greenwood to lead the line over the next few seasons.

In Cavani, Greenwood has the perfect tutor. The supremely talented and highly experienced Uruguay marksman can offer the ideal balance between nurturing the teenage prodigy on the training ground and allowing him enough time on the pitch to develop; at 34, the former Paris Saint-Germain ace can no longer play every week.

The United academy graduate is clearly a favourite of Solskjaer’s, featuring in 51 games in all competitions this term and being a regular in the starting XI, and has won the trust of the Red Devils boss through his impressive displays and incredible work ethic.

“He’s doing the right things on the training ground, so I’m very, very happy with him,” said Solskjaer when talking about Greenwood earlier in the season, and he’s not the only one enthralled by the youngster’s ability.

“The goal from Greenwood, that’s a striker’s instinct, this kid is a striker. What I was pleased about with Greenwood was his all-round game. His movement and the way he retained possession was great,” marvelled Rio Ferdinand after he scored against Brighton at the start of April.

“He’s making unbelievable runs. He needs to keep making those runs because his team-mates will find him eventually.”

If Greenwood carries on developing at the rate at which he’s currently progressing, then United could have their next homegrown superstar on their hands. However, the potential arrival of Ings could stunt his growth and that’s not a risk worth taking.

O Fluminense está em novas mãos. Chegou ao fim a gestão Peter Siemsen, que durou seis anos, e começou a era Pedro Abad na presidência do Tricolor. A cerimônia de posse se deu nesta terça-feira, no Salão Nobre das Laranjeiras, diante de um público formado pelos conselheiros do clube.

Abad foi eleito com 50,39% e leva Cacá Cardoso com ele ao cargo de vice-presidente geral. O mandato é trienal, indo até 2019.

Depois de receber, literalmente, o bastão das mãos de Siemsen, Abad disse as primeiras palavras como presidente do Fluminense.

-Ninguém aqui é mais importante que o Fluminense. Tivemos um processo eleitoral extremamente árduo, com muitas agressões de todas as partes. Mas acho que hoje, vendo a composição do Conselho, fico extremamente feliz de ver a pluralidade de ideias, de origens. A bola está rolando. Temos que entrar em campo e fazer o Fluminense grande- declarou o novo mandatário.

Peter Siemsen se despediu da função que exerceu pelos últimos seis anos com um discurso de exaltação ao futuro tricolor e de conciliação.

– Tenho toda confiança do mundo que ele fará um grande trabalho. Cada um se uniu em prol da candidatura que tem como objetivo o crescimento do Fluminense. É muito importante que todo mundo saia daqui unido para fazer o Fluminense crescer. Agora é hora de discutir o futuro, crescimento. Aqui se inicia uma nova gestão que quer muito o crescimento do clube – disse Peter.

A cerimônia de posse no Flu teve até a presença do presidente da Ferj, Rubens Lopes, que ao longo da gestão Peter foi de amigo a desafeto, mas conseguindo uma reaproximação com a federação do Rio de Janeiro nos últimos meses.
