Algumas vezes estou treinando falta e ele chega para me dar dicas. Agradeço muito a ele por tudo – finalizou.

Things lean at Oval stalls

The horror story of the first Test at Kensington Oval has not onlyaffected the West Indies team

David Hinds23-Jun-2002The horror story of the first Test at Kensington Oval has not onlyaffected the West Indies team. While the Windies have been struggling to get their game going againstNew Zealand on the inside, the vendors on the outside have beenstruggling to get items sold. The first day’s crowd was disappointing and again yesterday, the fansdid not come out in numbers. A Barbados Cricket Association officialyesterday said ticket sales for today’s play have again been slow and asmaller crowd could be in the Oval for the next three days if the gamegoes the distance.Sales are not so good. I think it’s because of the (football) World Cupand there aren’t that many tourists coming to cricket like the last time(against India), said Vincent Adamson of Mama’s Pot, a popular foodstall.People aren’t tired of cricket, they just are not interested in NewZealand because they have no stars.Owner of the stall, David Adamson, has a differing view on why thingsare at a lull.None of the local boys, except for Pedro Collins is playing, and Bajanslike to see their own. Also, the series wasn’t well advertised as it waswhen India were here, he said. That in itself, along with the fact that there is a general downturn inthe economy, is what is hurting sales at this Test match. What I hope todo is to make back the rental cost, right now compared to the last Testseries, I would say business is down 50 per cent.Over at Al’s Food Tent, one of the women told SUNSPORT: It is not goingwell at all. The last time we had cricket, when 1 p.m. we were sold outand looking to go home; not today, she said pointing at the several fulltrays of local food.Even an hour before the day’s play was finished one food stall outsidethe Kensington Stand had closed its shutters and pulled stumps. This wasa symbol that nothing much was happening and nothing much was expected. Not only the food stalls are feeling the pinch of the small crowds.Deborah Hall, owner of Debbie’s Variety, which specialises in Africancrafts, agreed that things are slow. The stall is getting some sales, not much but I am contented withwhatever I make. People, I think, hold their money for the One-Dayersand spend a lot more.Allison Lucas, one of the popular barbecue chefs, said: Friday was veryslow, today [yesterday] was a lot better. People just are not interestedin New Zealand and everyone is feeling the pinch.

Saints closing in on Williams

Southampton are reportedly closing in on their third signing of the summer…

What’s the talk?

According to TalkSport, Southampton are on the verge of completing a deal to sign Brandon Williams on loan from Manchester United for the 2021/22 campaign

Ralph Hasenhuttl has targetted fullback additions this summer and Williams is now set to become his second signing in that area, following the arrival of Romain Perraud, and his third signing overall, as Theo Walcott also arrived earlier in the summer.

The report claims that the United defender wants to join the Saints in order to compete for regular game time after struggling to establish himself at Old Trafford last season.

Fans will be delighted

Southampton fans will be delighted with this news as the arrival of Williams helps to solve a problem position for the club ahead of next term. Kyle Walker-Peters and Perraud are currently the only senior fullback options at Hasenhuttl’s disposal, with youngster Yan Valery having been out on loan in the Championship last season, and the lack of depth is a concern.

As it stand, the Austrian coach is an injury away from needing to play other players out of position to fill the right-back or left-back spots, which is why Williams joining the club could be a shrewd piece of business by Martin Semmens.

Without this deal, the likes of James Ward-Prowse, Mohamed Salisu and Jack Stephens could end up being slotted in at fullback and taken away from their desired positions, which is not ideal when trying to find a rhythm and balance within the side.

Williams is also the perfect fullback signing because he can operate on either side. He has played at left-back and right-back for United at senior level, which means that he could compete with both Perraud and Walker-Peters. This means that the Saints are essentially bringing in two players for the price of one, with Semmens avoiding the need to sign a left-back and a right-back as cover because the 20-year-old can do both roles.

He is also a quality addition to the side in terms of the level of performance he can bring on the pitch. United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer once praised the defender as being “brave” after he awarded him his debut for the club in the Europa League against AZ Alkmaar in 2019.

He told MEN:

“The performance and debut of Brandon, fantastic. You can’t see any nerves, he’s so brave, the courage to take the ball and go forward. Great defending, very pleased, some big, big pluses today.”

The versatile beast averaged an impressive WhoScored rating of 7.19 in eight Europa League starts for United in the 2019/20 campaign. This shows that he has the quality to compete at the top level, which is another reason why fans will be delighted by this move. The Saints supporters will enjoy seeing an adaptable, quality, player come in and play a key role in Hasenhuttl’s squad.

AND in other news, Hasenhuttl may already have his Ings heir at Southampton, he’s their “biggest talent”…

Rafael Marques ressurge, Felipe Melo marca, e Verdão vence Mirassol

Palmer: Urhoghide was wise to leave Sheffield Wednesday

Former Sheffield Wednesday midfielder Carlton Palmer has told The Transfer Tavern in an exclusive interview that Osaze Urhoghide was wise to leave the Owls for Celtic this summer.

The 21-year-old central defender joined the Scottish giants on a free transfer earlier this month after his contract expired, linking up with team-mate Liam Shaw once again.

Wednesday were desperate to keep hold of Urhoghide, with the Yorkshire club posting on their official website back in May that the Dutch youngster had been offered a new deal.

Urhoghide opted to sign for Celtic in the end, though, and Palmer believes it was the right decision.

Speaking exclusively to TT about the player’s move, the ex-Wednesday star said:

“It’s just indicative of what’s going on at Sheffield Wednesday. He’s not going to stay. I mean, listening to the articles, I think he had a lot of offers and some from the Premier League.

“He’s wise to go somewhere where he’s going to play and develop, you know. But they were never going to stay at Sheffield Wednesday once they got relegated if they’ve got down to the final year of the contract.”

As for incomings, Darren Moore has been able to strengthen the left-back position in the current transfer window.

The Owls confirmed earlier this week that they have signed Jaden Brown from Carabao Cup opponents Huddersfield Town.

Cidermen slip further into the relegation zone after innings defeat by Sussex

Somerset slipped further into the Division One relegation zone at Taunton today when they were beaten by Sussex by an innings, with one day to spare

Richard Walsh21-Jul-2002Somerset slipped further into the Division One relegation zone at Taunton today when they were beaten by Sussex by an innings, with one day to spare. The overnight pair on Robin Martin Jenkins and Mark Davis took the Sussex overnight score of 522 for 7 onto 642 before Davis was dismissed, and 2 runs later they were all out.Facing the daunting challenge of needing to score 374 to make Sussex bat again, the Cidermen got off to the worst possible of starts, losing Jamie Cox without a run on the board.Matt Wood followed with the score on 23, and by lunch Somerset had reached 63 for 2, with Mike Burns not out 26 and Peter Bowler unbeaten on 20.Immediately after the break Somerset lost Bowler for 20, and Keith Parsons without scoring, and at 64 for 4 appeared to be in trouble.Burns and Blackwell came together and seemed to recover the situation, but on 98 Burns was unlucky to miss out on his century when he was caught off the bowling of Davis, and Somerset were 191 for 5.After the tea interval Blackwell became the dominating force in the Somerset innings but despite his 114, and another rearguard action from the lower order batsmen,Matt Bulbeck (22) and Steffan Jones, who ended unbeaten on 37 they were eventually all out for 373, to give Sussex victory by an innings and one run.At the end of the day Somerset coach Kevin Shine told me: "We are very disappointed with this result and all round this was a poor team display. To get bowled out for 270 we needed to claw it back but it just didn’t happen and we didn’t bowl in the right spot.If we had batted as well as we have been then we thought that we could make it safe , but after being 64 for 4 we were always struggling."He continued: "All credit to them they stuck to their game plan and were very disciplined, and deserve to get their 20 points."
