Retornando, Jair ganha nova opção para o time.

ICL policy could cost England – BCCI

Two weeks after the ECB announced the US$5 million Champions League Twenty20 tournament, England are in danger of not being part of the event

Cricinfo staff22-Jun-2008The story so farSeptember 13, 2007: First announcement of Champions League, an international Twenty20 competition to be run by boards of India, England, Australia and South Africa and featuring top two sides from each country.June 7, 2008: ECB says the league, with US$5m prize money, will be held in September-October.June 8, 2008: IPL chief Lalit Modi says its franchises will get first priority over players who are also in other teams to qualify for the Champions League – and that teams fielding ICL players will be disqualified.June 10, 2008: Chairmen of several English counties demand clarification over the eligibility of ICL players.June 19, 2008: BCCI president Sharad Pawar says national boards can adopt their own policy over ICL players but the BCCI would then have the freedom to take its decision. Two weeks after the ECB announced the US$5 million Champions League Twenty20 tournament, England are in danger of not being part of the event with the BCCI officially deciding on Sunday to bar players associated with the unauthorised Indian Cricket League (ICL).Niranjan Shah, the BCCI secretary, told Cricinfo Pakistan had been asked to join the tournament after the Indian board found it would not be possible to invite English counties due to the ECB’s “policy of letting ICL players play in their leagues”. The IPL – a part of the Indian board – is the driving force behind the Champions League while the rules for the tournament are currently being framed by Cricket Australia.IS Bindra, a member of the IPL’s governing council, told Cricinfo that “as of now, three [participating] countries are confirmed – India, South Africa and Australia”. “Pakistan may be the fourth, but first we have to get a response from the ECB on the ICL issue,” Bindra said. “Teams from England can be considered, but only those who don’t have players associated with the ICL.”The BCCI is very clear that ICL players will not be featured in the tournament. If the ECB can’t guarantee that it will clear only teams without ICL players for the tournament, then we will look at the replacement.”The BCCI has barred all official links with players associated with the ICL, which was launched last year before the BCCI’s high-profile IPL, but there are currently around 25 players connected with the ICL playing for 15 of the 18 English counties.Bindra, who is also the ICC’s principal advisor, said the decision to ask the ECB to ensure teams without ICL links for the Champions League was taken at a meeting of the BCCI in New Delhi on Sunday. “We will get a final picture when the issue is discussed during the ICC’s annual conference in Dubai this month-end.”Other BCCI officials told Cricinfo they don’t expect the ECB to provide a “no-ICL guarantee” and suggested that English teams are virtually out of the tournament. The ECB allowed players associated with the ICL to play in their domestic circuit after it faced legal action from the league, which was backed by the country’s strong trade laws that protects the rights of individuals. “It’s just that the BCCI would like the ECB to be seen as taking a decision on this,” an official said.Lalit Modi, the IPL chairman and commissioner, had previously told Cricinfo that teams with players associated with ICL would not be invited for the tournament “under any circumstance”, even if these players are dropped just for the event. The Champions League was announced by England in a press release on June 7 which said that the ECB, Cricket Australia, the BCCI and Cricket South Africa had “reached an agreement for the staging of the inaugural Champions League this autumn”. However, Modi later said that the announcement was premature. The tournament, to be held in September-October, will involve the top two Twenty20 domestic teams from participating nations. Western Australia and Victoria from Australia, Rajasthan Royals and Chennai Super Kings from the Indian Premier League in India along with the Dolphins and Titans from the Pro20 in South Africa have already qualified.

Crystal Palace: Fans react to John Textor arrival

Crystal Palace announced the arrival of John Textor on Wednesday afternoon, which, as to be expected, had a lot of Eagles fans talking on social media.

Textor joins the club as an investor and director, becoming the club’s fourth partner alongside Steve Parish, Josh Harris and David Blitzer.

Palace have already spent over £45m on three new signings this summer in Michael Olise, Marc Guehi and Joachim Andresen, and it appears as if Textor may have helped the club facilitate those moves.

Parish admitted on the club’s website following Textor’s announcement that the American ‘has invested significant sums’ which has helped ‘the rejuvenation of the squad’.

The Guardian stated after Textor’s arrival that he has bought a stake worth £87.5m at Selhurst Park, almost 18% of the club.

He initially wanted to buy Palace outright but will now work alongside fellow Americans Harris and Blitzer as well as Parish.

Palace fans react

The Eagles shared the news regarding Textor on their official Twitter page. These supporters were quick to give their positive thoughts to the update, with one labelling it as ‘massive’.

Warburton drops hint on Masterson’s future

Queens Park Rangers centre-back Conor Masterson could be set to depart the Kiyan Prince Foundation Stadium this summer.

What’s the talk?

In a recent interview with West London Sport, Mark Warburton revealed that the QPR defender is attracting a significant amount of attention in the summer transfer window, with the manager appearing open to the idea of sending the 23-year-old out on loan.

However, the 58-year-old goes on to state that, if he is to sanction the temporary departure of the Republic of Ireland U21 this summer, it must be to a club that both the Rs boss and Les Ferdinand believe will help further the player’s development, or else they are more than happy to keep the £3.4k-per-week man in west London for the club’s 2021/22 campaign.

Warburton said: “There’s interest in Conor. He’s done well for us at Championship level and if he goes out on loan, it’s got to be the right move for his development.

“Clubs are well aware of Conor. Les will work on the right move. It has to be right – you don’t just send a player out willy-nilly. You have to make sure it’ll be right for his career development path.

“If that opportunity arises for Conor then we’ll take it. If not, then we’re very happy to have him here.”

Music to the ears of fans

Despite QPR getting their Championship campaign off to a rather slow start in a 1-1 draw with Millwall last weekend, there is nevertheless plenty of reason for fans of the club to be excited at present.

Indeed, Warburton has overseen arguably one of the most impressive transfer windows of any Championship side this summer, securing deals for the likes of Andre Dozzell, Stefan Johansen, Charlie Austin, Jordy de Wijs, Sam Field, Sam McCallum and Jimmy Dunne, all of whom cost the club a reported total of just £1.67m in transfer fees.

Furthermore, following Warburton’s latest comments regarding Masterson, it is evident that the manager and his transfer team are not only planning for the here and now with QPR but are also considering the long term future of the club.

Indeed, there are countless examples of clubs sending youth prospects on loan further town the EFL pyramid with the aim of simply affording the player first-team experience, rather than taking into account the style of football a team plays, the manager in charge of a side, or even the general brand of football that is evident in the league as a whole – with the latter being particularly important if sending a player on loan overseas.

However, in order for a loan deal to be truly beneficial for the development of a youngster, all of these factors must be taken into account.

This is something that, from Warburton’s words concerning the player who he himself dubbed an “excellent” talent, it is evident the Rs boss also believes, with his recent remarks more than likely being music to the ears of QPR fans – whose club appears to be in very safe hands with the 58-year-old at the helm.

Edwards stars in drizzly encounter

England’s first match against West Indies in 15 years promised much but rain ended proceedings with the home side on 156 for 4, with Charlotte Edwards unbeaten on a classy 60.West Indies’ young attack acquitted themselves well, forcing England to stutter to 85 for 3 with tight, probing lines, backed up by good fielding and, most importantly, a strong team spirit that belied the fact that most of the side had made their international debuts this tour. Then again, they had won every single match against Ireland and Netherlands, their experience and confidence growing with every outing, led by the old campaigner Nadine George. The stand-out dismissals were two run-outs from Deandra Dottin’s powerful arm, removing Claire Taylor with a direct hit from cover – but not before the experienced batsman had brought up 3000 ODI runs – and then Lydia Greenway with a throw to the striker’s end after Edwards cut into the covers. Dottin had also bowled Sarah Taylor off the pads, the ball somehow squeezing through bat and pad before trickling on to the stumps, while Caroline Atkins was caught off a top-edge at midwicket, both having reached their twenties. But Edwards had all the shots on a good deck, her boundaries coming either straight or square, and she eased to her fifty with a superb straight drive back past the offspinner Afy Fletcher. She was looking fully composed and calm until rain brought an early lunch, and ultimately the end of the match, much to the chagrin of the small but enthusiastic Loughborough crowd. The sides return on Saturday for the second and final match of this short series.

E ele parece estar no caminho certo.

du Preez ton in vain as Yorkshire win thriller

A round-up of the Pro 40 action on July 20, 2008

Cricinfo staff03-Aug-2008The game of the day was at Headingley where Yorkshire held their nerve for a thrilling one-run win over Leicestershire. A century for Jacques Rudolph boosted the home side to an impressive 303 for 4, only for Dillon du Preez to respond with a ton of his own, this one unbeaten, but in an ultimately losing cause as they ended up on 302 for 7. du Preez needed to hit a six off the final ball, but could only manage a four. Rudolph’s 120 came from 97 balls, while du Preez’s 107 came from a mere 65 as he set about lifting his side from true danger at 198 for 6. He nearly pulled off the heist thanks to a seventh-wicket stand of 94 with Claude Henderson, who made 30, but Darren Gough bowled Henderson and then the visitors couldn’t quite scrape home.Mark Ramprakash capped a good weekend with a fifty as Surrey beat Derbyshireby 13 runs at Chesterfield. Scott Newman also made a half-century before he fell to former Surrey team-mate Nayan Doshi. Another ex-Surrey man, Rikki Clarke, posed a few problems for his old club, putting on 95 with Chris Rogers, but they both fell in quick succession and Derbyshire were from then on playing catch-up. Jade Dernbach ended with 5 for 31 and Usman Afzaal also played his part with 4 for 49.Azhar Mahmood proved Kent’s star turn in their 59-run Duckworth-Lewis win against Glamorgan at Canterbury. He top-scored with 68 to lift them to 202 for 9 and then he took 3 for 14 from six overs to prevent Glamorgan getting a hold in their innings. Chasing 191 from 30.2 overs, they pulled up well short on 131 for 9, Ben Wright the sole batting light with a fifty.Essex easily sank Northamptonshire at Garon Park after bowling them out for 61 and then cantering to their 61-run target from 37 overs, requiring only 14.5 overs to do so. The pitch had aided bowlers in the Championship match last week and continued to do so with the white ball. There were three wickets each for Graham Napier, David Masters and Chris Wright, while the opener Jason Gallian remained unbeaten on 20 as a simple chase was completed with ease.

Nottinghamshire’s 208 for 8 proved enough to pull off a nine-run win by the D-L method when Gloucestershire responded with 92 for 4 from a revised 19 overs at Cheltenham. The visitors’ innings was built around Samit Patel’s 65, while Chris Read gave them a late boost with 33 after they had slipped to 166 for 6. Mark Ealham’s 3 for 10 from four overs then put the skids on Gloucestershire and earned the win, keeping Nottinghamshire top of the table.Lancashire reached 210 for 8 from a rain-affected 39 overs and Hampshire had reached 14 without loss from five overs when the match was washed out at Southampton. Francois du Plessis and Steven Croft both brought up their fifties, sharing a rescuing stand of 118 for the fifth wicket, while Billy Taylor took four wickets. There was no result either between Sussex and Worcestershire at Horsham. Worcestershire reached 244 for 9 from their full complement of overs and Sussex had replied with 52 for 2 from 9.3 overs when the rains came. The in-form Vikram Solanki’s half-century, then, came to nought, as did Daryl Mitchell’s while Luke Wright claimed four wickets the day before England’s one-day squad is named.
