West Ham United are set to renew their interest in Fiorentina defender Nikola Milenkovic in the upcoming transfer window. 

The lowdown

The Hammers tried to sign centre-back Milenkovic in 2021, but the move broke down. Journalist Angelo Giorgetti reported that the player himself turned down the transfer.

The 24-year-old has made 28 Serie A appearances so far this season and has racked up 33 caps for Serbia.

Valued at £20.7million by Transfermarkt, he has just over a year left to run on his contract with La Viola.

The latest

Fiorentina News (via Sport Witness) claim that West Ham are expected to make another push for Milenkovic this summer.

They face competition, however, from Serie A giants Fiorentina and AC Milan.

Fiorentina hope to convince Milenkovic to stay with a new contract proposal and qualification for European football. They’re currently in sixth, on track for the Europa Conference League.

The verdict

West Ham may yet to be able to offer Champions League football, the reward for winning the Europa League. They’re due to face Eintracht Frankfurt in the semifinals later this month.

That could make them considerably more attractive to Milenkovic, if indeed he wasn’t particularly keen last summer.

He’s an imposing, 6 foot 4 CB, winning 3.6 aerial duels per 90 minutes (84th percentile in Europe’s top five leagues), but his 90.2% pass completion record suggests he’s also confident in possession (via FBRef).

Milenkovic is also a goal threat when he comes up from the back, having netted 12 times during his Serie A career. According to sports journalist Josh Bunting, he’s shown ‘wonderful’ composure in the opposition box.

If Moyes intends to move on or upgrade one of his current centre-back options – Kurt Zouma, Craig Dawson, Angelo Ogbonna and Issa Diop – then Milenkovic looks a good option.

وتحدث الشافعي خلال مداخلة تليفزيونية في برنامج “الماتش” عبر قناة “أون تايم سبورتس1” عن ركلة الجزاء التي احتسبت لصالح فيوتشر في مباراة اليوم، وقال: “لسنا فقط من اعترضنا، لكن هناك محللين ومتخصصين كثيرين أكدوا انها ليست ركلة جزاء، ونحن استمعنا لهم”.

وأكمل: “في الدقيقة 88 احتسب الحكم ركلة جزاء، ورغم ان حكم الفيديو استدعاه ليتأكد ذهب وأصر على احتسابها، ونحن نعلم القواعد جيدًا، لو كان حكم الفيديو متفق مع قرار الحكم لم يكن سيستدعيه”.

وأضاف: “ومع احترامنا للتحكيم لكن نحن نشاهد مباريات في كأس العالم، هل نرى ما يحدث لدينا في الدوري المصري بكأس العالم؟”.

واوضح: “نحن لا نمتلك حكام يديرون مباريات في المونديال، أنا لا أفتري على أحد، أنا أريد أن يكون الحكام المصريين هم الأفضل في العالم، لكن ما نراه اليوم يؤكد حقيقة أننا لسنا متقدمين ولا نذهب لكأس العالم”.

واستطرد: “المتخصصون لم يقروا بإنها ركلة جزاء، لماذا يحدث ذلك مع أسوان ولصالح من؟”.

وأردف: “إذا تكرر الظلم التحكيمي مرة أخرى لن نستمر في الدوري، لماذا نستمر في مسابقة غير عادلة؟”.

وأتم: “اليوم أصدرنا بيانًا، وغدًا سنتقدم بشكوى رسمية في لجنة الحكام الرئيسية ورابطة الأندية المصرية، ونريد إجراء تحقيق، وإذا كان لنا حق نأخذه، نحن نعلم إنه لو لنا حق المباراة لن تُعاد ولكن لو هذا الحكم أخطأ لابد أن يتم اتخاذ إجراء قانوني ضده”.

The Whites were first linked with a move for Mazraoui back in October, with reports in November then suggesting that Victor Orta was readying a move for the 24-year-old.

As we know, a move for the versatile right-back never materialised in the January window, however, Leeds were still name-checked with an interest in Mazraoui just last month.

The Morocco international is out of contract with Ajax in a matter of months so Orta could have snapped him up for free this summer, but it doesn’t look as if Elland Road will be his next destination.

The Latest: Romano’s post

Romano took to Twitter on Tuesday morning, revealing that Bayern are prepared to complete a deal for Mazraoui ‘in the coming days’.

The transfer expert added that a ‘verbal agreement has been reached’ following a productive meeting with agent Mino Raiola.

The Verdict: Dest instead?

It could well be a busy summer at Elland Road in regards to incomings and outgoings, with journalist Pete O’Rourke believing the Whites will be ‘looking at a right-back’.

Barcelona’s Sergino Dest has been linked with a move to Yorkshire, a transfer that O’Rourke labelled as a possible ‘big deal’ ahead of Jesse Marsch’s first full season in charge.

One thing we do know is that it looks extremely unlikely that Mazraoui will be joining the club, which is a blow for Orta and co, so they may decide to step up their interest in Dest as a result.

Taking to Twitter on Friday, ESPN‘s Olley claimed that United and three other Premier League clubs are chasing Dybala’s signature ahead of a summer move:

“Arsenal, Tottenham, Man Utd & Newcastle have made contact with Paulo Dybala’s representatives over a summer move. Nothing at an advanced stage, just exploring the idea – player assessing his options (also interest from clubs in Italy and Spain).”

The Verdict: Decision lies with Ten Hag

United have made the error of signing too many players on reputation rather than effectiveness during the post-Sir Alex Ferguson era, with the likes of Alexis Sanchez, Edinson Cavani and Raphael Varane big names who arguably arrived past their prime, to name just a few.

In terms of Dybala, the signing should only happen if incoming manager Erik ten Hag feels he is the right man for his system and not just because he is a household name.

He turns 29 later this year, so he isn’t getting any younger, but he is still at an age where he could come in a provide some of the magic has been missing in the attacking third this season IF he is Ten Hag’s choice.

Dybala could be hungry to prove himself in the Premier League, potentially acting as a catalyst for some much-needed future success at Old Trafford, with 14 goals and six assists coming his way this season.

Tim Nielsen, the Australia coach, has defended offspinner Nathan Hauritz following his disappointing returns in the ongoing tour of India by suggesting a lack of bounce could be the reason and backing him to be well-prepared for the first Ashes Test in Brisbane.Hauritz was ineffective against India’s batsmen in the Tests, averaging 65 for his six wickets, and went wicketless in his team’s five-wicket defeat in the second ODI in Visakhapatnam.”His performance is better in Test cricket than what he has done here in India,” Nielsen told reporters in Margao, the venue of the third and final ODI on Sunday. “We have talked quite a bit since the end of the second Test. (He’s) started getting used to the conditions. He hasn’t got the assistance here he gets in Australia, probably because of the slowness of the wickets and the lack of bounce.”The Indian spinners put a lot of top spin on the ball to try and get the ball to bounce. In Australia the wickets are harder and we probably concentrate more on sidespin. It’s a big difference when you play in these conditions, something Nathan has to do to get adjusted to the playing conditions here.”Hauritz was Australia’s best bowler in the home Test series against Pakistan in 2009-10, where he picked up 18 wickets, and Nielsen said he had a chance to return to form ahead of the Ashes. “It was a massive learning curve for him. He’s a better bowler as a result of it,” Nielsen said. “He’s got two-three Sheffield Shield matches and that should help him prepare well for the first Test.”Instead, Nielsen said, the inexperience of Australia’s fast-bowling attack was a bit of a concern. Two seamers – John Hastings and Mitchell Starc – made their debuts in the Visakhapatnam game, while their partner Clint McKay was still new to international cricket. “If we lack anything it is the experience in the fast bowling group that we had in the past,” Nielsen said. “When we won the Champions Trophy in South Africa last year we had (Peter) Siddle, Brett Lee and Mitchell Johnson as our first three bowlers. That makes it a lot easier when bowlers four and five come into the attack.”We have Starc, Hastings and Mckay who have played very little international cricket. It puts pressure on our middle bowlers. Probably it was a little bit evident the other night when we did not take early wickets.”When asked if the results on this tour had affected Australia’s World Cup preparation, Nielsen said: “We are not panicking at all. We understand we haven’t got the results we would have liked but we have been very competitive. Antes de sair o gol do Peixe, o técnico do Papão colocou Walter no ataque e torcida foi ao delírio. E não demorou para o atacante resolver, aos 28 minutos, o jogador balançou as redes pela primeira vez com a camisa do Paysandu, que decretou a vitória no primeiro jogo.

A partida de volta acontece na próxima quinta-feira (15), às 21h15, no Mangueirão. Quem passar, enfrenta Manaus ou Rio Branco na semifinal.
