Newcastle eye Everton striker Richarlison

The representatives of Richarlison are reportedly now talking to Newcastle United, among other clubs, over a potential move in the summer from Everton.

The Lowdown: Controversy

For all of his brilliance at times, Richarlison does also come with controversy, having recently thrown a lit flare during the Goodison Park faithful’s 1-0 win over Chelsea at the weekend, for which he is now being investigated.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/everton-news-5/” title=”Everton news!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

He has also been criticised for having problems with his attitude this season, and with the situation that the Merseyside club find themselves in the Premier League, it would not be a surprise if they decided to part ways this summer, banking a big sum to reinvest into other areas of the squad.

The Latest: Newcastle talks

Writing in his latest piece for Newcastle World, reliable journalist Liam Kennedy has reported that Richarlison’s representatives are already now speaking to the Magpies, as well as a number of other teams in the top flight, about a potential move for the Brazil international this summer.

However, the Toffees are set to ask for a fee of around £50m in order to let him go, but he is keen to leave regardless of whether they stay up or not.

The Verdict: Sell

Richarlison has hit a purple patch lately, with four goals and one assist in his last six games in the Premier League, including the winner against Chelsea last time out (Transfermarkt), but £50m is just too much to turn down for a player that also comes with some baggage, and has not always been as consistent this season.

Of course, they may have no choice if they go down, but even if they stay up, the Blues could then use that money to reinvest in other key areas of the squad, in order to kick on again under Frank Lampard next term.

Nonetheless, they still have Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who can be the focal point of their attack should Richarlison be sold, providing the England international can use the summer to finally get fully fit.

Victories for SBP and KRL

Round-up of the third day of the fifth round of Division Two of the Quaid-E-Azam Trophy

ESPNcricinfo staff24-Nov-2010State Bank of Pakistan consolidated their position at the top of the table, with a 10-wicket win over laggards Quetta at the Khan Research Laboratory Ground in Rawalpindi. SBP needed only 11 overs on the third day, as they took Quetta’s last four wickets for 29 runs and then got the six runs required to win. The victory had been set up on the first two days by SBP’s bowlers, who dismissed Quetta for 112 in their second innings. Mohammad Naved ended up with nine in the match, taking 4 for 31 in the second innings.Khan Research Laboratories upset second-placed Abbottabad by an innings and 86-runs at the Abbottabad Cricket Stadium to move up to fourth in the table. KRL left-arm seamer Rahat Ali took 5 for 36, as Abbottabad crumbled to 158 all out on the third day. KRL made a positive declaration early in the day, and it was always going to be hard for the hosts from then on as they tried to recover from a 244-run first innings deficit. Wickets fell at regular intervals as none of Abbottabad’s batsmen got more than 28 and KRL picked up their second win of the season. Abbottabad’s loss means that Lahore Shalimar have caught up with them on 27 points in second position.Karachi Whites beat Hyderabad by 241 runs at the United Bank Limited Sports Complex in Karachi, but the hosts decision to bat again despite leading by 304 after the first innings cost them the three extra points they would have gained had they won by an innings. Karachi batted only five overs on the third morning before they decided that 442 was a big enough total to set Hyderabad. The visitors made a slight improvement on their first-innings batting performance, when only managed 65, but it wasn’t enough to delay Karachi’s win. Karachi offspinner Atif Maqbool, who hadn’t even had a chance to bowl in Hyderabad’s short first innings, took 5 for 81, while fast bowler Sohail Khan completed his ten-wicket haul with four wickets in the second innings to go with his seven in the first. Karachi are now fifth in the table, while Hyderabad are just three points off the bottom.Lahore Shalimar made light work of their 156-run target against Lahore Ravi at the Lahore City Cricket Association Ground, to move level on points with Abbottabad in second position. The match had been a low-scoring affair till the third morning, with neither team having crossed the 200-run mark, but Lahore Shalimar’s batsmen went along at 4.25 runs per over on Wednesday to knock off the runs required with seven wickets still in hand at the end. Lahore Shalimar opener Irfan Zaman got his team’s only half-century in the match, reaching 73. Lahore Ravi move down to sixth position in the table after the loss.Peshawar made a remarkable recovery from their overnight score of 119 for 6 to reach a first innings total of 339 and keep themselves in the game against Pakistan Television at the Arbab Niaz Stadium in Peshawar. Peshawar’s overnight batsmen Sajjad Ahmed and Riaz Afridi both got centuries on the third day, but Peshawar still fell behind Pakistan Television’s first innings total. Pakistan Television’s batsmen showed a clear intention to that the visitors are going for a win, as they scored at 6.62 runs per over to finish at 159 for 1 at stumps, 210 runs ahead. They will need to maintain that scoring rate tomorrow if they are going to give themselves time to bowl Peshawar out.

Tanto no jogo contra o Flamengo, quanto diante do Vasco.

Wellington hand Auckland narrow win

Wellington managed to mess up a chase they had under control for all but the last two overs, handing Auckland a two-run win at the Basin Reserve. Chasing 126 in a game shortened to 12 overs, Grant Elliott and Neal Parlane had put Wellington in charge. The duo smashed the Auckland bowling all around, adding 67 runs for the third wicket off 30 deliveries. At 108 for 2 with 14 balls left, the game was Wellington’s to lose, and they somehow contrived to do so. Parlane was the first to depart, run out by Lou Vincent for 40 off 23 balls. In the next over, Colin Munro took two wickets in three balls, leaving Wellington seven to get off the last over. Elliott faced only one of those six balls, and watched helplessly as Luke Woodcock used up the remaining five to make three, leaving Wellington short.Auckland’s top four batsmen had earlier chipped in with vital contributions to take their side to 125 for 5, which proved just enough in the end. The narrow win keeps them on top of the points table, and comes after they won by a run against Canterbury two days ago.

Clarke no fan of runners for cramp

Michael Clarke doesn’t believe batsmen should be allowed runners when suffering from cramp after Jonathan Trott had the help of a team-mate for the latter part of his career-best 137 at Sydney

Michael Clarke doesn’t believe batsmen should be allowed runners when suffering from cramp after Jonathan Trott had the help of a team-mate for the latter part of his career-best 137 at Sydney.Trott was hobbling as he approached his hundred on a scorching day then shortly after passing the milestone called for assistance and Matt Prior ran for Trott until he fell in the final over of the innings. Clarke briefly discussed the situation with the umpires, Marais Erasmus and Daryl Harper, but the playing conditions have recently been amended leaving the decision to grant a runner solely at the discretion of the officials.”I found out that was a rule that has come back in this year,” Clarke said. “I don’t agree, it shouldn’t be the case that you are allowed a runner if you have cramp. But that’s the rule. They’ve certainly done nothing wrong.”England were at the centre of a runner-based controversy in late 2009 when Andrew Strauss denied Graeme Smith the use of one during the Champions Trophy in South Africa. Smith, who scored 141 in South Africa’s 22-run defeat at Centurion, was cramping badly during the innings but Strauss, in consultation with the umpires, didn’t allow a runner.”The ICC has changed the rule,” Strauss said. “If we all want to abide by the rules then we can. The rules were that you couldn’t have a runner if you have cramp and then they changed it to you can have a runner if you have cramp.”Following the Smith incident, Strauss was adamant that cramp was an issue of fitness and condition, not an injury. “Cramping to a certain extent is a preparation thing,” he said after the South Africa match. “To a certain extent, it’s a conditioning thing. My personal view is that you shouldn’t get a runner for cramps, full stop.”On this occasion Trott’s need for a runner came in the first innings of the match, whereas Smith had also spent 50 overs fielding. Trott recovered to take his place on the middle a few overs into Australia’s chase and also bowled four overs. “I had 40 minutes break and I didn’t come on until after a couple of overs,” he said. “You get a bit of liquid on board and you sit there under the air conditioning and your body cools down a little bit.”Strauss appeared more up to speed on the new runner situation than Clarke and it wasn’t the only occasion where the Australia captain was caught out by the umpires. As the run chase came to a head Clarke wanted to call the batting Powerplay at the start of the 41st over, but was told he informed the umpires too late. He then missed his chance again in the next over and couldn’t take it until the 43rd.”I was told with the Powerplay you have to let the umpires know you want to take it before they get to their mark,” Clarke said. “The first time I tried to take it so they [England] would have to change the bowler and I got told you had to tell the umpires earlier, then in next over I said ‘righto I’m definitely taking the Powerplay’ and Daryl Harper said I’m already at my mark. If that’s the rule, that’s the rule.”In the end the delay didn’t hurt Australia as the five overs of fielding restrictions brought 50 runs for the Clarke-David Hussey partnership and pushed the home side to the brink of victory which they eventually completed with two wickets and four balls to spare.
