Um dos maiores campeões da competição, o Independiente possui a equipe mais valiosa do torneio. Ao todo, o elenco está avaliado em 69,2 milhões de euros, o que equivale a290,2 milhões de reais. O lateral-direito Fabricio Bustos, com um mercado de 12,5 milhões de euros (52,4 milhões de reais) é o jogador mais caro da competição.

CORINTHIANS

Primeiro brasileiro da lista, a equipe comandada por Fábio Carille larga como segunda equipe com maior valor de mercado da competição. O Timão é avaliado, no total, em 60,9 milhões de euros, equivalente a255,3 milhões de reais. Nesse contexto, Fagner, taxado em 7 milhões de euros (29,3 milhões de reais), se destaca.

SANTOS

Com um bom começo de ano desde a chegada do treinador argentino Jorge Sampaoli, o Santos chega como um dos candidatos ao título e é o terceiro time mais valioso da competição, com 51,5 milhões de euros (215,9 milhões de reais). O jovem Rodrygo, já negociado com o Real Madrid e desfalcando a equipe nesse começo de ano por conta do Sul-Americano Sub-20, é o que mais vale: 10 milhões de euros (41,9 milhões de reais).

RACING

Atual líder do Campeonato Argentino, o Racing também chega na Copa Sul-Americana com esperanças de título, mas terá um duelo decisivo contra o Corinthians logo na primeira fase. A equipe treinada por Eduardo Coudet está avaliada em 50,7 milhões de euros (212,6 milhões de reais) – o meio-campista Guillermo Fernández, avaliado em 6 milhões de euros (25,1 milhões de reais) é o jogador que se destaca nesse quesito.

DEFENSA Y JUSTICIA

O Defensa y Justicia é vice-líder do Campeonato Argentino, ocupa a segunda colocação da competição e está invicto a 17 jogos. COLÓN

Com uma recente eliminação sobre o São Paulo em seu ‘currículo internacional’, o Colón de Santa Fé é a sétima equipe mais valiosa do torneio, sendo avaliada em 26,5 milhões de euros (111,4 milhões de reais). O jovem atacante Tomás Chancalay, avaliado em 3,5 milhões de euros (14,6 milhões de reais) é quem se destaca nesse sentido.

BOTAFOGO

Com uma trajetória de sucesso na Taça Libertadores de 2017, o Botafogo busca retomar os grandes voos em uma competição internacional novamente. James Taylor must console himself with a place on the England Performance Programme having been omitted from the Test squad to tour India.The 22-year-old Taylor played in the final two Tests of the series against South Africa, making 34 at Leeds, where he added 147 with Kevin Pietersen, and 10 and 4 at Lord’s, where he was run out in the second innings. While he did not enjoy a prolific first season in Division One of the County Championship – he averaged 35.45 for Nottinghamshire in 2012 – he has a good reputation as a player of spin bowling and might have been seen as the man in possession. Instead two men without Test caps, Joe Root and Nick Compton, have been preferred in the Test squad.Taylor is in pole position should England require a replacement, however. The Performance squad will also travel to India in mid-November so will be on hand if any member of the full squad suffers injury or illness. Ian Bell is expected to miss the second Test of the series in order to attend the birth of his first child.There is no place in either squad for Ravi Bopara. He has struggled to recover any semblance of form and confidence since declaring himself unavailable for the second Test against South Africa due to personal problems. It may be wrong to read too much into that, though, as Chris Woakes and James Tredwell have also been excluded from both squads. Steven Davies, who has been the reserve Test wicketkeeper for the last few years, also finds himself out of both squads having lost his form and his Surrey place towards the end of the season.There is better news for 19-year-old Ben Foakes. The Essex wicketkeeper has played only five first-class games, but has impressed with both his batting and his glovework for England Under-19 and has been promoted above a host of rivals into the England set-up. Gary Ballance, Zimbabwe born and the nephew of Dave Houghton, is also included in an England squad for the first time having only recently qualified. Ballance represented Zimbabwe in the U19 World Cup in 2006. Two other wicketkeepers, Jos Buttler and Craig Kieswetter, have also been named in the squad.There are call-ups, too, for Chris Wright and Toby Roland-Jones, two seamers who enjoyed good county seasons, while Azeem Rafiq is one of four spinners, alongside Scott Borthwick, Danny Briggs, who claimed only five Championship wickets in 2012, and Simon Kerrigan. Danish Kaneria, the Pakistan legspinner accused of masterminding a spot-fixing scam, has confirmed he will appeal against the life ban handed to him by the ECB on Friday.

ESPNcricinfo staff22-Jun-2012Danish Kaneria has confirmed he will appeal against the lifetime ban handed down to him by the ECB on Friday.Kaneria, the Pakistan legspinner, called the decision “very unfair” and also attacked the evidence given against him by the team-mate he was judged to have groomed to take part in a betting scam – Mervyn Westfield.When the three-man ECB disciplinary panel found Kaneria guilty of corruption, Gerard Elias QC called him “a grave danger to the game of cricket” and was highly critical of his defense arguments during the case heard in London.Kaneria insisted that he was “an honest man” and that he would fight a decision that looks certain to end his career.”I’m very upset about this decision,” he told “For what reason they have convicted me I do not know. It is a very, very unfair decision against me. I’ve come all the way from Pakistan to say the truth.Kaneria rejected the finding that he was a grave danger to the game. “They don’t have any proof against me. I don’t know why they are saying this. I will definitely be doing an appeal. The people trust me. I’m an honest man. I’ve been playing cricket with passion and love. I have done nothing wrong.”Westfield, the former Essex pace bowler, who was jailed for four months in January after accepting £6000 to conceded a set number of runs in an over during the Pro40 match against Durham in 2009, gave key evidence during the hearing. That earned him some latitude with Elias when he was given a five-year ban from the game which the allowance of being able to play club cricket in three.However, Kaneria hit back: “The person who has committed the crime, gone to prison, been telling lies to police, telling lies in court – he has told lies even in the tribunal,” he said. “I’m not lying. I’m telling the truth. I’ve been telling the truth all the way.”As well as the appeal that Kaneria has said he will launch there is also an ongoing integrity committee hearing with the PCB which is now set to conclude following the end of the ECB case. Although the ban was only handed out by one member board, the ICC expect the sanctions against Kaneria to be accepted around the world.Haroon Lorgat, the ICC chief executive, said: “I will ask the Board to remind all Members to put in place appropriate mechanisms to ensure that the sanctions imposed on both players in this case are appropriately recognised and respected outside of the ECB’s domestic jurisdiction”The need to protect the game from corruption requires every one of us, including the players, to remain vigilant and work tirelessly to that end. The increased popularity and television coverage for various domestic competitions around the world requires much more than just the ICC to be vigilant and we acknowledge the ECB’s efforts in this respect.”

The first semi-final of the BPL will have the team that finished first in the league playing the team that finished fourth. Duronto Rajshahi finished first, with 14 points, but until 2.00 am on the morning of the semi-final, it wasn’t clear who finished fourth.Initially, on Sunday, it was announced that Barisal Burners were through to the semis, after their victory against Chittagong Kings, on the basis of net run-rate. At that point, the other two spots were going to be contested between Chittagong, Khulna Royal Bengals and Dhaka Gladiators.On Monday, after Dhaka lost narrowly to Rajshahi and Khulna beat Sylhet Royals, Khulna went to second place with 12 points, leaving Dhaka, Barisal and Chittagong tied on 10 points at the end of the league phase.In the head-to-head results between the teams level on 10 points, Dhaka had beaten Barisal twice and Chittagong once and had a superior net-run rate and qualified for the semi-finals in third place. That now left Chittagong and Barisal in contention for the fourth spot.Chittagong had two wins, against Barisal and Dhaka, while Barisal had only one, against Chittagong. Barisal’s net run-rate, however, was better than that of Chittagong. It was initially announced that Chittagong were in the semi-finals, presumably on the basis of a better head-to-head record in the three-way tie on 10 points, which included Dhaka. At 2.45 am this morning, however, the BPL issued a release which said that Barisal was the fourth semi-finalist, presumably because their head-to-head record with Chittagong – not including Dhaka who had already qualified – was tied and they had a better net run-rate.The upshot of all this confusion was that Rajshahi had ample time to prepare mentally for their knockout clash, while their opponents were left in limbo until the wee hours of the morning.

Wasim Jaffer, the Mumbai captain, became the highest run-getter in the Ranji Trophy, surpassing his former team-mate Amol Muzumdar, who was present at the Wankhede Stadium as part of the commentary team and had just moved into the commentator’s chair when his record was broken.It was a typical Jaffer stroke that brought up the milestone after the drinks break in the second session on the second day. He went past Muzumdar’s tournament tally of 8237 runs, and also reached his fifty, when he drove a flighted Rahul Sharma legbreak against the turn to the midwicket boundary. Jaffer acknowledged the standing ovation from the Mumbai dressing room and the applause from the handful of supporters with a raised bat. He calmly went back to the job at hand, that of earning Mumbai a big first-innings lead against Punjab.Looking back on a prolific career, Jaffer said that right from his early days, he knew he would have to score consistently to keep his place in a strong side like Mumbai. “I got a triple-century in my second first-class game, against Saurashtra, and that certainly helped,” he said. Jaffer maintained that winning the Ranji Trophy multiple times for Mumbai was what had given him more satisfaction than breaking the individual record.Muzumdar told fellow commentator Ajay Mehra on air that it was fitting that a Mumbai batsman had broken the record held by a Mumbai batsman and hoped that Jaffer would go on to score thousands of more runs in his career. Though Muzumdar had gone past the erstwhile record-holder Amarjit Kaypee while playing for Assam, he was a permanent fixture in the Mumbai line-up for 16 years till he moved to the eastern state for two seasons in 2009.Jaffer, who made his first-class debut at the Wankhede in 1996, has made all his Ranji runs playing for Mumbai, something he said he was proud of. He has also Mumbai led to two Ranji titles, and won the trophy on five other occasions.
