West Ham dealt Lingard injury concern

According to a report from The Sun, coming as West Ham stars Declan Rice, Michail Antonio and Aaron Cresswell remain out through injury, the club are ‘concerned’ over the fitness of star midfielder Jesse Lingard who is being ‘hampered’ by aching legs.

Indeed, as per this report, the Englishman underwent intensive treatment to solve the issue throughout last week and West Ham are praying he doesn’t become the latest player to be ruled out of action.

West Ham dealt Lingard concern

As David Moyes’ men chase an unprecedented Champions League qualifying place, Lingard is apparently still struggling with the leg problem as a concern emerges he won’t be able to play against Burnley on Monday.

The 28-year-old has been a revelation since joining the Hammers on loan in January and Moyes reportedly would have ideally rested him against Chelsea if the likes of Rice, Antonio and Cresswell weren’t already ruled out.

In another injury concern, West Ham now appear to be slightly sweating over Lingard’s fitness.

Transfer Tavern take

If the Englishman is unable to play at Turf Moor it would be a major blow, without question.

He has been Moyes’ most crucial asset since his signing, having scored nine Premier League goals in 11 appearances for the Hammers this season.

Lingard is also the most threatening West Ham man in terms of shots per game, averaging an impressive three attempts on goal every 90 minutes (WhoScored).

It’s little wonder Vladimir Coufal called him ‘unbelievable’ in an interview with Sky Sports, Hammers supporters will be hoping that the concerns over Lingard don’t become any more serious.

Leeds eye summer move Romain Perraud

Leeds now face a major battle to sign Stade Brest full-back Romain Perraud in the summer transfer window.

What’s the story?

The Athletic’s Phil Hay revealed back in February that the 23-year-old Frenchman is someone who Marcelo Bielsa’s side are genuinely interested in, but it now appears that a deal won’t be as easy or straightforward.

According to The Daily Mail, Perraud’s performances this season in Ligue 1 have now also alerted French giants Lyon and Marseille of his talents, with the former potentially being available to offer Champions League football for next season.

The report adds that “Leeds want Perraud for their left-back berth as Ezgjan Alioski is out of contract in the summer and talking to Galatasaray”.

Exciting for Bielsa

With three goals and five assists in 30 Ligue 1 games this season, Perraud has been every bit of the attacking full-back that Bielsa would surely love to have at Elland Road given the Leeds boss’ style of play.

Speaking on his podcast, The Athletic’s Phil Hay said: “He’s starting to become one of the leading left-backs, seen by many people, as the best left-back or one of them in France’s top division.

“It’s very clear from the performance data that he’s a very attacking left-back, who is good at creating chances, taking shots himself, a threat going forward, but also really good at employing the press, good as part of a team that likes to press aggressively. On those basic pointers, you can see why Leeds are interested.”

[snack-amp-story url=”https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/latest-leeds-transfer-rumours-and-news” title=”Latest Leeds transfer rumours and news”]

And a player profile from by Get French Football News revealed: “Romain Perraud rapidly became a fan-favourite at the Stade Charlety, thanks to some Roberto Carlos-esque rockets from outside the box. Keeping everything in perspective, Perraud’s style is, on some points, quite similar to the former Real Madrid full-back’s. He has a fighting mentality, an incredible shot power and a left-foot that has proven throughout the season to be a deadly weapon for set-pieces.”

With a “fighting mentality”, and as someone who presses well and gets forward, the 5 foot 8 speedster seems perfect for Bielsa-ball at Elland Road, and would surely hit the ground running.

Given his performances this season, it’s no surprise why Leeds are keen on signing the £7.2m-rated Perraud this summer, and it’s absolutely imperative Victor Orta does his job and convinces the 23-year-old that his future is brightest at Elland Road.

Meanwhile, Leeds could form a scary Premier League duo by signing this star…

Spurs legend comments on Scarlett deal

Former Tottenham Hotspur captain Gary Mabbutt has told Football FanCast that Dane Scarlett can push on and become a first-team player in north London.

The teenager has signed his first professional contract at the club, which runs until 2023.

The deal had been in place but Scarlett could not officially formalise his future until he turned 17.

The striker has been in brilliant form for the youth squads, scoring 15 goals in 13 games for the Under-18s in their Premier League this season.

An England U16 international, who scored a brace on his debut, he has made a total of 22 appearances for the development squads, scoring 23 goals.

He has also played three times for the senior squad, totalling 17 minutes in the Europa League and a minute in the Premier League, even laying on an assist in the 4-0 win over Wolfsberger.

Mabbutt believes that he can grow and develop during his time at Tottenham, and thinks he will be a fixture in the first-team for some time to come.

Asked about his new contract, he told FFC: “Every level he’s played at for us, his development is continuing at a very high level.

“He’s got the attitude, he’s got the character, the determination. And as far as his abilities, I think they’re unquestionable.

“So I’m delighted to see him getting his first full contract. And he’s a player that will be pushing to get through to that first team level on a consistent basis.”

Everton fans hail Kean transfer update

Many Everton fans have been left to hail a transfer update on Moise Kean as Calciomercato have reported that PSG are already in talks to sign him.

As per the news outlet, the Goodison Park faithful are demanding a transfer fee of at least €50m (£42.9m) to let him go, with Paris Saint Germain keen to buy the Italy international on a permanent deal.

It would mean that the Merseyside club would be able to make a tidy profit on a player that did not really show his talents while he was there, scoring a mere four goals in 37 games in total over all competitions across the last two terms for the Toffees (Transfermarkt).

Nonetheless, the quite large chunk of money could be used to invest in another striker when the summer window comes along.

These Toffees hailed the transfer update on the 21-year-old on Twitter, with one Blues supporter even going as far as to claim that it was ‘lovely’:

“If we can get over £40m for him then we’ve done well! Put a sell in percentage in the deal and it’s a good deal. I’m sure we would get a decent striker for half that”

Amoruso eager for Gers return

Former Glasgow Rangers player Lorenzo Amoruso has suggested he would like to return to Ibrox to work with the 55-time Scottish champions.

Amoruso wants Gers return

Amoruso spent six years with the Gers between 1997 and 2003, helping them win three league titles along the way.

Speaking to Inside Futbol, the Italian has revealed he would like to work with his former club again. He said:

Sure and I hope [I can work with Rangers again]!

I often talk to the club, I have always told them that if they need a person in Italy, I am there.

I have always tried to advise on some players.

“I have three teams in my heart: Bari, Fiorentina and Rangers.”

Clear affinity

Given his comments here, it is clear Amoruso shares an affinity with the Gers. After six years there, it would be hard not to leave with some kind of connection. It seems he is not officially working with any club at the moment, which means he would be available if the Gers were eager to sign him up.

Having someone on the ground in Italy could be very advantageous. It is a footballing hotbed, after all, and Amoruso would be in a position to point up some hidden gems that would otherwise remain off the Gers’ radar. It remains to be seen whether Ross Wilson and co act on the 49-year-old’s wishes.

Palmer urges WBA Benteke move

Speaking exclusively to The Transfer Tavern, Carlton Palmer has said that Christian Benteke could be a fantastic signing for West Bromwich Albion.

Benteke could be useful

The Baggies have been linked with a move for the Belgium international (The Express and Star), who has scored three times in 11 matches for Crystal Palace in the Premier League so far this campaign (Transfermarkt).

Palmer believes that Sam Allardyce is right to target the 30-year-old. He said:

“Benteke is one of those strikers, he’s only scored three goals this season but he brings a lot more to the table and maybe in West Brom’s situation, where they’re battling, he can put in a shift up front, he is good at holding the ball up and he’s good at heading the ball at both ends of the pitch. Benteke might be a player who could be useful to West Brom, to help them stay in the league.”

Interesting option

While Benteke has not had the best time of it in recent years – he has just ten Premier League goals since the 2016/2017 campaign – he is still a striker with a fantastic pedigree. He has 75 goals in the top flight to his name despite that disappointing run, and his record this term has shown flashes of the ability that once saw him earn a £32.5m to Liverpool (BBC).

Currently valued at £8.1m (Transfermarkt), Allardyce has confirmed that Benteke is on his radar (Sky Sports). He actually managed the striker during his time at Selhurst Park, so he is someone he is at least familiar with. As West Brom look to stay among the elite, Benteke could provide a boost to the side’s attacking options.

In other news, West Brom fans were delighted by this Champions League giants’ struggles.

West Ham can avoid Junior Firpo transfer

West Ham United would be throwing money away if David Sullivan were to sanction a mid-season loan for FC Barcelona outcast Junior Firpo.

What’s the word?

According to Calcio Napoli 24, Firpo’s representatives have been in contact with a clutch of potential suitors to sound out their interest in signing the left-back in the January transfer window.

West Ham have reportedly not responded to the approach as of yet, but if they do want to sign the player, they will face competition from SSC Napoli, who Gianluca Di Marzio adds have asked for further information on the terms of any temporary deal for the £38,000-per-week defender.

Firpo is believed to favour a move to the Premier League if he is to leave the Camp Nou this winter, but Napoli remain in the hunt in case they manage to offload one of Kevin Malcuit, Elseid Hysaj or Faouzi Ghoulam.

West Ham were credited with an interest in signing Firpo last month following Arthur Masuaku undergoing career-saving knee surgery, with it noted at the time that Barcelona were eager to offload the defender as they strive to reduce their enormous wage bill.

Firpo has continued to live life on the fringes under Ronald Koeman since the Irons’ interest was previously claimed, playing just nine minutes of La Liga football in 2021 to bring his record over 10 appearances to 351 minutes across all competitions.

The last of his league outings even came at right-back as a late substitute for Sergino Dest, to continue a trend of playing out of position with no appearances in his natural left-back role during a La Liga game thus far this season.

Throwing money away

West Ham moving to sign Firpo on loan in the January transfer window would likely only serve to see Sullivan throw his money away by taking on the Barcelona outcast’s wages, as David Moyes already has options at full-back who warrant minutes.

Koeman was willing to field Firpo in his natural left-back role during stages of Barcelona’s Champions League Group Stage campaign, which saw the 24-year-old offer just 0.2 key passes and 0.4 shots while completing a mere 0.6 dribbles and making 0.6 successful tackles, per SofaScore.

Moyes would struggle to see those type of numbers match up and better those of Aaron Creswell at the London Stadium, who has put his initial rustiness to the side to begin shining at full-back once more in place of the injured Masuaku.

Cresswell has continually been defensively solid over the festive period and strong going forward, particularly from set-pieces with his ferocious power, and helped West Ham to begin setting their own tone at Chelsea after the Blues started the stronger of the two sides.

The £6m-rated star’s efforts have helped him to deliver seven crosses a game in the Premier League when fielded at left-back, with Cresswell finding a West Ham player with two of his efforts, per WhoScored. Comparably, Liverpool’s Andrew Robertson – considered as one of the best left-backs in the world – offers 2.2 accurate crosses from 9.4 deliveries a game.

Cresswell also produces 0.7 shots and the joint-most key passes per league game (1.4) by an Irons player with Tomas Soucek, among those who have played more than five times under Moyes this term.

Defensively, Cresswell is further successful with half of his 1.4 tackles a game, offers 1.3 interceptions – more than Masuaku had (0.5) – and makes 1.9 blocks, while offering at least twice as many assists (4) so far this season than anyone else in the Hammers squad.

Moyes also has Ben Johnson who can provide cover for Cresswell, and he did little wrong when fielded in the FA Cup earlier this month with a solid defensive showing from the 20-year-old.

West Ham might be eyeing new additions this month but a cast-off left-back isn’t needed at this time.

AND in other news, a £4.5m-rated brute was West Ham’s true star of the show vs Burnley.
