Celtic reach Reo Hatate agreement

Celtic have reached a ‘general agreement’ with Kawasaki Frontale for Reo Hatate, according to Japanese outlet Hochi.

The Lowdown: Hatate profiled

Hatate has recently just helped Kawasaki Frontale win a second consecutive J1 League title, making 38 appearances in 2020/21.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/celtic-updates-19/” title=”Celtic updates!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

He turned out in a number of positions, mainly in midfield and at left-back, with Celtic reportedly seeing Hatate as a midfield addition, with his current contract set to expire at the end of January.

The 24-year-old is on €38,000-a-year (around £625-a-week) with his current employers, but it seems as if a move to Glasgow to join countryman Kyogo Furuhashi is on the cards.

The Latest: Agreement reached

Japanese outlet Hochi posted on Twitter on Sunday evening, shortly after Celtic’s 1-0 win over Motherwell, claiming Hatate is set to ‘move’ to Scotland.

A ‘general agreement’ has been reached between the two clubs, so it seems as if the Hoops will pay a small fee to the J1 League side for Hatate’s services.

The Verdict: More good news

The Hoops have also agreed on a fee with Gamba Osaka for midfielder Yosuke Ideguchi, so Celtic are now closing in on two January signings already.

That can only be good news, especially with the number of injuries Ange Postecoglou has had to deal with in recent weeks, while the fact everything is in place so soon shows impressive planning from a club who have often been lacking in the boardroom in recent years.

Postecoglou will know just what Hatate and Ideguchi will bring to Scotland following his time as a manager in Japan, and the quicker Celtic can complete their January business, the better, with Japanese forward Daizen Maeda another on the club’s winter window wishlist.

Liverpool fans fume at Robertson injury

A number of Liverpool supporters are fuming after Andy Robertson picked up an injury for Scotland, with the Reds seemingly set to be without yet another key man.

The 27-year-old has been an outstanding player for Liverpool, joining from Hull City in 2017 and maturing into arguably the best left-back in the world.

Robertson has made 189 appearances for the Reds in total, winning both the Champions League and Premier League during a wonderful period in the club’s history.

While the defender hasn’t been at his best this season, he remains a hugely important player, so news of an injury for Scotland on Monday night has not gone down well.

According to the Liverpool Echo [via Anfield Watch on Twitter], Robertson went off with a hamstring problem in the 2-0 win over Denmark, meaning he could be set for a spell on the sidelines.

This adds to the news of the international withdrawals of Jordan Henderson and Sadio Mane, as well as the already injured list, which includes Naby Keita and Roberto Firmino.

Spurs could sign dream Son partner in Adeyemi

Antonio Conte could form a devastating duo at Tottenham by signing RB Salzburg striker Karim Adeyemi and partnering him with Son Heung-min.

What’s the story?

According to Sport1, both the Lilywhites and fellow Premier League club Newcastle have made contact with Salzburg over potentially signing the Germany international.

The report added that many of European football’s biggest sides are also interested in luring him away from Austria, so Fabio Paratici’s task has gotten that much harder.

Imagine him and Son

The £18m-rated Adeyemi, who has been praised as “brutal” by Salzburg coach Matthias Jaissle, has enjoyed an outstanding start to the current campaign, firing in 14 goals in 21 games in all competitions, including three goals in four Champions League outings.

The 19-year-old’s performances for the Austrian club has already earned senior international honours, and after watching him impress as a substitute during Germany’s victory over Armenia earlier this year, national team boss Hansi Flick said: “He’s already shown at the start of this season that he can be ice cold in front of goal. He did really well today when he came in.”

With Conte seemingly looking to employ a back three at Spurs, having some genuine pace and movement up front will be crucial to the way the north London side attack, and Adeyemi has that in abundance.

As per Sofascore, he completes 2.3 dribbles and takes 2.7 shots on average per match, but rather encouragingly, he has also shown a real creative side to his game, averaging an impressive 1.2 key passes per match in the Austrian Bundesliga.

The combination of pace, finishing and directness could see Adeyemi form a scary partnership alongside Son in Spurs’ attack.

Journalist expecting Vlahovic offer from Spurs

Speaking to Radio Toscana, as transcribed by Fiorentina News, Italian journalist Niccolò Ceccarini has shared what he expects from Tottenham as they eye Serie A star Dusan Vlahovic.

The Lowdown: Spurs in Vlahovic chase…

Tottenham’s links to the 21-year-old sensation have showed no sign of ending since they were repeatedly tipped with a summer swoop.

As per The Telegraph, Vlahovic was a target for Spurs as managing director Fabio Paratici eyed a striker alternative to superstar Lilywhites man Harry Kane.

Fanta Calcio also claimed an offer had been made for the Serbian but to no avail, and since Antonio Conte’s appointment as Spurs boss, they have been tipped as one of the frontrunners for his signature.

Calciomercato.it name-dropped the exciting forward as one of many Serie A big names who Conte could bring to N17 as journalist Ceccarini also makes a claim on live radio.

The Latest: Ceccarini makes Vlahovic claim…

Speaking to Radio Toscana, as transcribed and shared by Fiorentina News, the market expert and reporter believes Spurs will make another attempt to sign him after north London rivals Arsenal recently lodged a bid.

“Today’s news is Arsenal’s offer to Fiorentina for Vlahovic,” he explained.

“The figure we are talking about is very important, but in addition to the interest of the Gunners, I also expect an offer from Tottenham, perhaps in June.”

The Verdict: Why wait…

La Viola president Rocco Commisso recently confirmed that Vlahovic rejected new deal offers to make him the highest paid player in the club’s history, putting Fiorentina under some pressure to sell while they can.

His current deal expires in 2023 and Spurs would be remiss not to take advantage of the opportunity as soon as possible before one of their competitors strike an agreement.

Kane, currently out of form with just one Premier League goal so far and Tottenham’s only natural senior striking option, needs to be backed up and Vlahovic could come as the perfect January option.

Lauded as ‘incredible’ by Serie A expert Conor Clancy, the hot shot forward has continued his fine 2020/2021 goalscoring run of form into this season and his proficiency could be a real asset for Conte.

Liverpool fans erupt over Fabinho post

Flocking to Twitter, many Liverpool fans have erupted over an official club message regarding midfield enforcer Fabinho.

Jurgen Klopp’s side continued their fine start to the 2021/2022 campaign with another Champions League victory as they saw off La Liga giants Atletico Madrid on Tuesday.

Indeed, a late penalty dispatched by superstar forward Mohamed Salah earned Liverpool all three points in an entertaining 3-2 win at the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium.

The Reds now top Group B with three wins out of three, scoring 11 goals in the process, yet a club message draws attention to the second half performance of defensive midfielder Fabinho against Atletico.

Liverpool’s international came on for Naby Keita and put in an assured display, winning the majority of his ground duels and completing 95% of his passes (SofaScore).

In a tribute to his outing, Liverpool’s official club account have heaped praise on Fabinho, simply stating he ‘bossed it’ against Diego Simeone’s men.

In response, many Reds have flocked in full agreement whilst lauding the Brazilian themselves – find all of their best verdicts down below.

Liverpool linked with Ousmane Dembele

It’s safe to say Liverpool have been an attacking force to be reckoned with so far this season with 17 league goals scored in seven games as well as having more shots at goal (147) than any other Premier League side.

Additionally, Jurgen Klopp’s side have had seven different goalscorers getting their names up in lights in the top flight.

Nevertheless, it seems as though the club have their eyes on signing a new attacking talent at some point in the future.

What’s the news?

It has recently been reported by the Daily Mail that the Merseyside club have already started negotiations to sign Barcelona winger Ousmane Dembele on a free transfer during the next summer window.

Prior to joining Barcelona, the 24-year-old racked up a total of 10 goals and 22 assists in 50 appearances for German club Borussia Dortmund before securing his move to the La Liga giants for a massive fee of £135.5m in the summer of 2017.

During his time at Barcelona, the Frenchman – who is currently valued at £45m according to Transfermarkt – has scored 30 goals and provided 21 assists in 118 appearances across all competitions.

Potential Salah heir?

Regarding a potential move to Liverpool, we think that the club should definitely persist with their reported negotiations over trying to secure a free transfer for Dembele, who has been described as a “phenomenon” by former Barcelona star Lionel Messi, in the summer.

Given how there has been some speculation over whether or not current Reds winger Mohamed Salah will sign a new deal at the Merseyside club when his contract expires in 2023, we feel that Dembele could potentially be a solid replacement for Salah if the Egyptian leaves when his current deal ends, especially if Liverpool can sign the Frenchman on a free transfer.

Furthermore, with Dembele making more dribbles per game (2.1) in La Liga last season than Salah (one) managed to in the Premier League, perhaps this could be an area where the 24-year-old would improve Klopp’s side if the Egyptian were to depart.

However, he would need to work on his goals and assists output if he were to follow in Salah’s footsteps at Anfield, with the latter consistently netting more than 20 times a season for the Reds. However, one thing which should be taken into consideration over a potential move for Dembele is the hefty number of injuries he has suffered during his time in Spain.

Overall, though, if Liverpool can sign him on a free transfer, this could be a great bit of business from the Reds given how much experience he has of playing at the top level under his belt in the Bundesliga, La Liga and Champions League.

Nuno gets major Spurs boost before NUFC

Tottenham Hotspur are expecting to have their South American contingent available for this weekend’s Premier League return…

What’s the latest?

That’s according to Telegraph reporters Chris Bascombe and Mike McGrath, who delivered a fresh update on the state of play as the international break draws to a close later this week.

Argentina duo Giovani Lo Celso and Cristian Romero, Brazil right-back Emerson Royal and Colombia centre-back Davinson Sanchez were not given early releases from their respective national teams and will be playing on Thursday night and into the early hours of Friday.

But they will fly directly back to north London, via private jet, to their Hotspur Way training base in time for Sunday’s clash at Newcastle United. They are expected to sleep and be assessed there.

Massive boost

This will come as a massive boost to Nuno Santo and Spurs as it means he may well have four of his first-team stars available for quite an intriguing encounter – it’s the first game since the Magpies were taken over by a Saudi-backed consortium, so the home crowd could be out in full force at St James’ Park.

The Lilywhites ended a run of three heavy straight defeats with a 2-1 win over Aston Villa right before the break and they will be looking to build on that this weekend.

Three of the four South American players featured at some point in the match, so if the Portuguese head coach wants to stick with a winning lineup, then he’s able to do that following this update.

Romero has started two of Spurs’ last three matches, Sanchez has started four times, Emerson has started three of his four appearances in the Premier League so far this season.

Evidently, either of the three could be in line to start up in the northeast, should they be fit.

This would be a huge source of encouragement for Nuno, who could well still be under pressure as one win doesn’t detract from their recent run of poor results, in which they were embarrassed in the north London derby.

West Ham eye new Bowen in 2022

West Ham United are among the teams eyeing a move for Jed Wallace this January…

What’s the word?

According to Football League World, the Irons are watching the 27-year-old’s situation ahead of a potential move, with his Millwall contract set to expire at the end of the current season.

It’s thought that an offer to stay at the Den is currently on the table but nothing has been agreed so far, meaning interest has ramped up in recent weeks.

The Hammers face competition from Premier League rivals Burnley, Newcastle United, Crystal Palace and Brentford, as well as Championship giants West Brom and Scottish duo Rangers and Celtic, who are able to agree on a pre-contract agreement at the turn of the year.

Sources have told FLW that the chances of Wallace signing an extension appear slim at this stage.

Another Bowen?

West Ham have had plenty of success when dipping their toes into the lower leagues of English football, with notable cases being Aaron Cresswell and Jarrod Bowen.

In Wallace, they could certainly repeat their trick with the latter, who signed from Hull City after a few fruitful seasons in the second tier.

After ten goals and seven assists during the 2020/21 campaign and ten goals and 12 assists in 2019/20, the £6.3m-rated dynamo has continued his fine form into the current season, scoring three times and providing two assists in six appearances, as per Transfermarkt.

Lions boss Gary Rowett knows exactly how important he has been for his side throughout the past few seasons. After a win over Bristol City in 2019, he described Wallace as “instrumental in everything we achieve at the moment,” whilst he was dubbed a “game-changer” after his performance against Blackpool just last month.

Throughout the course of his career, Wallace has proven to be very consistent, which bodes well for his chances of making the big step-up into the Premier League – as per WhoScored, he’s averaged 1.9 shots, 1.6 key passes and 1.5 dribbles every game since 2015/16.

Meanwhile, he’s provided a total of 39 goals and 40 assists across 228 appearances, averaging a direct contribution once every 239 minutes, per Transfermarkt.

Considering the success of Bowen, the Irons should certainly take a punt on the 27-year-old attacker in 2022, whether that be in January or on a free transfer at the end of the season.

Wallace could be the next great success story of Moyes’ impressive recruitment.

Sam Lee drops Romeo Lavia update

Sam Lee has dropped an exciting update on Manchester City youngster Romeo Lavia, with the 17-year-old included in Pep Guardiola’s Champions League squad.

Clubs participating in the Champions League had to submit their squad lists earlier this week and there weren’t too many surprises from the Citizens, other than the inclusion of Lavia, with the Athletic’s Manchester City correspondent Sam Lee confirming on Twitter that:

“City have included 17-year-old Belgian defensive midfielder Romeo Lavia in their 21-man Champions League squad. He’s highly thought of and this is proof, even if appearances will be hard to come by.”

The teenage midfielder is yet to make an appearance for the senior side since joining from Anderlecht in 2020 but he is clearly making waves in the academy, with two goals and two assists in 21 appearances for the U’23s.

[freshpress-quiz id=“577936”]

City have been handed a tough group in the Champions League, with games against PSG, RB Leipzig and Club Brugge to come, so if Lavia is to make his debut for the Etihad-based side, it seems likely that it will come against Brugge, as they are likely to be the weakest opponents of the three.

With Fernandinho now 36-years-old, City may well be in the market for a new defensive-midfielder in the near future but if Lavia works hard enough and builds on his obvious potential, then perhaps we will see him make the step up into the first-team.

It was suggested after the Brazilian penned a new one-year deal that Lavia would be promoted to the first-team for the 2021/22 campaign and it certainly seems likely that he will earn his first minutes as a first-team player soon after this announcement.

The Belgian midfielder clearly has a lot of promise and therefore City fans will surely be delighted to see him named in the Champions League squad and will be hoping to see him make his first appearance for the senior side in the near future.
